Too bad John Singleton dropped out

“The reason I am not making this picture is because the people involved aren’t really respectful of the legacy of Tupac Amaru Shakur.” – John Singleton

You don’t eff with the Tupac legacy. You just don’t. John Singleton wants to let that be known, and he’s doing it in a daring and compelling way.

The now ex-director for the prolonged Pac biopic — that was put on hold — has decided to sever ties with the production. In a lengthy explanation via Instagram, where all public, open letters go to nowadays, he states that director Carl Franklin will take over the show.

It’s the richness of Tupac’s all around artistry that Singleton desires to preserve in his reel, but it seems as though the crew he was working with acted in opposition. Luckily for “real 2Pac fans,” a movie, that will celebrate Tupac in all aspects, is on the way. “They have no true love for ‘Pac so this movie will not be made with love,” he said. “And that’s why my ass isn’t involved! If Tupac knew what was going on he’d ride on all these fools and take it to the streets…but I won’t do that. I’ll just make my own project.”

"Real talk! The reason I am not making this picture is because the people involved aren't really respectful of the legacy of Tupac Amaru Shakur. I won't say much if you want you can read my articles in Hollywood Reporter on authenticity in Black Storytelling … To Pac's real fans just know I am still planning a movie on Tupac … It doesn't matter what they do mines will be better… Tupac was much more than a hip hop artist … He was a black man guided by his passions … Of most importance was his love of black people and culture … Something the people involved in this movie know nothing about… Real talk! How you gonna make a movie about a man when you suing his mother to get the rights to tell his story?! They have no true love 4 Pac so this movie will not be made with love! And that's why my ass isn't involved ! If Tupac knew what was going on he'd ride on all these fools and take it to the streets… But I won't do that … I'll just make my own project. What Yall think about that?!!"

john singleton is a self righteous pompous tool. it's a good thing he is not attached to this movie. his movie would be fluff and not objective enough to highlight anything but the positive in a life that was the very definition of contradiction. if one is to tell the story of a figure as complex as 2pac, you don't want john singleton to paint a singular picture that is not accurately reflective of the life of this man who was as much a negative force as he was a positive force and embodied the human experience trial, tribulations, contributions and accomplishments.

not to mention singleton had two good movies his entire career, boyz n the hood and poetic justice. everything since has been garbage. he's the type of guy to hire tyra banks and then use his "director" status to hook up with her. the type who proclaims to be smarter than everyone else but is full of sh*t.

if antoine fuqua was still the director that would be a totally diff story. that man can direct.

In order to make any film about Tupac work, YOU must show him as human being and not some Messiah trying to save the world. We have to see the good, bad and the ugly. There are a lot of secrets regarding Tupac's life and they should be included within the fabric of the film.

Oops! I forgot, this is Hollywood...they will present us wth a run-of-the-mill cookie cutter BIO just to make money off of Tupac's Life/Legacy. I don't think this film is going to show us anything new. Let's see if it does Tupac's Legacy any justice.
