I think a Netflix mini series would be better.

You can tell allot more story in 12 one hour episodes than you can in a 2 and a half hour movie.

A tv show could cover more ground, but a movie gets a wider release. Everything is just broader and more satisfying to watch on the big screen, especially if the material is right. Tupac in particular is definitely worth maximizing, since he had such a big life and legacy.

I think a tv show would be better as a follow up to the movie, assuming it's any good. This way the facts which aren't shown or given much detail, could be given more exposure.

Some of the best Musical bios were on Tv The Temptations, introducing dorthy Dandridge

Well, a Tupac biopic could accompany them on tv after the movie. I mean, it's not impossible since movies turn into tv shows all the time these days.

reply

Yes!!! Excellent post HBO mini series would be more ideal in my opinion. Like another poster said Introducing Dorothy Dandridge was done well. I would even say Bessie Smith film where Queen Latifah played her was well suited for HBO.

Pac's life should be longer than 2 hrs on the big screen. The Notorious movie made sense for the reason that BIG life did not have too much going on.
Pac on the other hand was super crazy a lot going on.

reply

Movie then Mini Series

Malcolm X had a lot going on and a movie was made about him.

PLEASE don't DIMINISH the LEGACY OF TUPAC!

Sorry, I am a huge fan of Dorothy Dandridge...the movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge was "garbage". It was Halle Berry playing dress up!

No she wasn't. Not even close. She's never been phenomenal in anything. You only think she was because you think she's cute and know almost nothing about real acting. Berry is a mediocre actress; always was, always will be.

I'm a fan of DD but tbh it's hard to find a triple threat actress that will embody everything DD accomplished. Halle matches appearance wise in terms of "talent" she lacked the singing, mannerisms, rhythm etc like DD. It was still a decent movie I saw it over a dozen times. In terms of "acting" Berry's dramatic scenes were there she really captured her emotions, heartbreak and the struggle. I don't think Janet Jackson or Jayne Kennedy could play DD dramatically as well as Halle Berry. Some of you are very harsh towards Berry maybe because you are die hard fans of DD but I don't see anyone acting wise that would be a better fit.

DD was not worthy of a BIG screen film simply because she was not a Marilyn. She is a legend, highly influential and made a cultural impact for African-Americans. I would say racism and discrimination prevented her from attaining super stardom.

Tupac is different he is BIGGER he has a larger presence about him. A 2 hour movie can't capture his life! How is it "diminishing Tupac's legacy" if the poster suggested to have a mini series after? More and more BIG name actors are moving to the smaller screen doesn't mean your "diminishing". Having a mini-series on Netflix isn't a bad idea.

All Eyez On Me will not be one of those films you can watch over a dozen times I don't see it. I don't know anybody who watched Notorious over and over again.

To be honest All Eyez on Me will not capture "Pac" I know that and real Pac fans know that. So many of you claim to be Pac fans but are only here to see a biopic. If I were directing a Tupac Biopic it would have to be on some Titanic level.

No, I'm harsh toward Berry because she is and has always been a mediocre actress. Her Oscar was grossly undeserved when there are Whitfields and Bassetts and Tysons and Woodards out there.

As far as who could've played DD, why limit it to Jackson and Kennedy, two equally mediocre actors? If you don't believe anyone acting-wise could've done that role far better than Berry, you have extremely limited exposure to actors.

She is a legend, highly influential and made a cultural impact for African-Americans. I would say racism and discrimination prevented her from attaining super stardom.

That's exactly why she DOES deserve a big-screen bio, something more encompassing and better done (including acted) than the HBO film.

Regarding Tupac, I don't deny the guy's talent and charisma. He very likely would've had a successful career as an actor...it seemed to be going that way. But let's be real; he's not legendary, not an immortal figure in music. He was a prolific, arguably better-than-average rapper who was tragically shot. Being shot does not automatically make anyone a legend. And while I understand 'Pac has a fiercely loyal fan base, I somehow don't think a mini-series dedicated to his life would be profitable enough or sustain a high enough viewership to create. And let's face it; all films, TV or screen, are done for profit.

Many of us assume that because we really like a particular actor or performer, everyone else is just as interested.

reply

First off, I don't have a limited exposure to actors/actresses I simply said I believe Berry was able to deliver a better performance than the choices originally attached to the role. So far, you're nitpicking at something so trivial like Halle Berry was not a good choice when you have not made a suggestion of who is a better choice.
Tupac NOT A LEGEND?? Why are you in these threads?! Where are the real 2Pac fans? Way 2 many trolls showing themselves on these AEOM board. How can you say he is "prolific" and dismiss the huge cultural impact he made in music particularly hip-hop. He would have to be the most highly influential rapper of ALL TIME!!! He is by far my fav I especially love how outspoken he is about the institutional, injustices that continue to plague disenfranchised black communities. Truly one of a kind he was known for his voice.

reply

There are many who would;ve done a better job. Point is, Berry's a medicore actor and didn't do the role justice. That's not trivial.

As far as Tupac goes, according to you, anyone who doesn't think he's a legend is a troll. That speaks to your immaturity and incapability to have an adult discussion.

reply

@TCMCLASSICS...

I never said that "All Eyez on Me" was going to capture Tupac. I already know that AEOM is going to be garbage, I know this from a Spiritual stand point. And yes, a Tupac movie can be done on an Titanic level if done right BUT you have to do your research on 2Pac and know your *beep* I am a real TUPAC FAN and I've been researching his life since 2007. A lot of people don't know a lot of "secrets" about Tupac's life...very complex and complicated.

Dorothy Dandridge and Marilyn Monroe are MIRROR IMAGES...this is some more deep complicated stuff.

Black Women would have ran to the theatre to see a movie about DD. People under estimate Black Audiences. Just like people would love to see a movie about AALIYAH on the big screen. I am so glad that the movie about her on Lifetime was garbage, I am a filmmaker and they didn't know what the hell they were doing and I don't think the Production Team of AEOM know what the Hell they are doing either...but we shall see.

I am waiting to see how the final movie poster is going to be for AEOM because the poster they have shown us so far is very impersonal...YUCK!

I've had my doubts about AEOM since John singleton dropped out. Little know fact he wrote the film Baby Boy for Tupac , but since he died it went to Tyreese . That Character had Tupac all over it. That's an example of how Singleton Understands Tupac. Benny boom is such a random choice. I'd prefer Kassi lemons she's more seasoned and underrated. after she did " Talk to me" proved her worth same as her husband Curtis Vondie hall he directed pac in Grid lockd

Please elaborate on what secrets you think you may know. Pac was pretty much an open book I've been following his career since he was alive! When he died more information became available by close friends, family members and acquaintances who decided to write books & share their stories. I've heard it ALL!! A lot of these Pac fans are too young & just started following his career thanks to YouTube, Spotify or Apple. Lol!

reply

I have been a FAN of Tupac since he was alive (I am in his age group and my B-Day is nine days after his) but I've been doing research since 2007. I have all of his music, books, magazine covers, etc. etc. "You think you may know" sounds a bit sarcastic so I will keep my Tupac information to myself. Yes Tupac is/was an open book but I was referring to info that is not public knowledge.

It's cool. But, a lot is already public knowledge even his prison tapes, prison letters, old recorded interviews on Youtube. EDI said, "it scary how much people know about him" a lot of stuff is out there down to his elementary school doodles, HS soundtrack of his life, prison letters sold to auction houses that were meant to be private.

Netflix?

I want an FX series on Tupac like The People v OJ Simpson. A 5-part one hour episodes. High quality writing, cinematography, and direction.

With the budget the movie had it could've been better then a movie. Make it an event !!

It takes people with vision to do this though. To think far beyond a movie. I feel like a theatrical movie is so 80's/90's.

reply

That's a good idea. Just like "The Jackson an American Dream." I'm honestly scared for this movie lol

reply

You're right. They should of done this like they did Pablo.
