Me Against the World
shareA rose that grew from the concrete would be my suggestion.
shareAt first I did not want this film to happen cause filmmakers never seem to get it right when it comes to musician bio pics. I'm not sure why that is... But the only descent bio pics I've seen about a musicians is "What's Love Got to do With It" and "The Doors" (which was only watchable because of Val Kilmer's performance). I think it's just so hard to cast such recognizable and known figures and it's hard to figure out what to include and what to leave out.
Tupac's story is so grand and his whole life is so interesting I just don't know where you would even start. Also he's such a known musician, historian, and activist I don't know how you even start to find an actor that can be him, not just to a cheap imitation (like Anthony Mackie was directed to do). Personally I think documentaries are better for musician films. There is a beautiful one about Tupac called "Thug Angel: Life of an Outlaw." If you want to know the real Tupac (at his best and at his worst), who he was and what he stood for than watch this documentary.
That being said now that Fuqua has stepped aside and Singelton has taken over, I think the film could work. I say this cause Singleton directed and knew Tupac, he knows the real person and will help to give an honest portrayal of one of the greatest artists and activists in all of American history.
Michael B. Jordan is the only actor I've seen with the intensity, subtlety, and passion to portray Tupac. His performance in "Fruitvale Station" proved he has the talent and passion for the role.
Still if you want to know about Tupac please check out "Thug Angel: Life of an Outlaw." It's one fo the best documentaries I've ever seen.
I hope Singleton makes a great film he's made some greats and this one can be great if it's done right and honest not like the laughably awful films like "Notorious," "Ray," "Walk the Line," and "Get Rich or Die Tryin."
Title ideas: Me Against the World, Makavelli, Thug Angel, Staring At the World Through My Rearview...
I don't know these all see kinda cheesy, I'm sure there's something better in one of his songs or poems.
