What would have been a more efficient way to kill the Kaiju?

I am thinking, maybe a powerful laser aimed at it. Or maybe a railgun able to penetrate its thick skin.

Maybe some kind of flying vehicle to kill it? If you look at nature, there are some wasps that kill tarantulas very efficiently..

What would be your prefered method of killing a Kaiju?

More efficient than a Jaeger?...Hard to say as the point of the Jaeger was to minimize the amount of toxic KAIJU BLUE made it to the shoreline and inhabited areas, so the jaegers were mostly deployed at sea before the Kaiju made landfall. They also mostly engaged in meelee combat as not to create lacerative wounds to spread Kaiju Blue-so they stuck with blunt force attacks...other than that, I guess squadrons of thousands of F-22 RAPTORS.

A Railgun with a powerful laser, that also fires nuclear missles! Oh and the railgun is attached to something that flies!!!

reply

[deleted]

Yeah, but it's got a powerful laser, fires nuclear missiles,ANNNDis attached to something cool that flies! Surely having worked with weapons in the private sector, you know that sounds unstoppable!!!

A supersonic fighter hitting a kaiju in the face with a 5000 lb bunker busting JDAM would solve that problem in seconds.

If the Kaiju blue is that big of a problem, that could have set up a massive sonar net around the rift. When they got a ping, they could have sent a high fusion nuclear torpedo right to the kaiju. Whatever kaiju blue is made of, I'd be willing to bet that turning into high energy plasma would break it down into something less toxic.

One missile. If an unstable two-legged robot can beat a monster with fists and such, a missile would have obliterated on of those.

reply

One missle?...that's fooking boring.

reply

20 bunker buster guided bombs to the head, just to be sure :) or like the star wars idea but with a "rod from god" , would do the job nicely, dont miss mind, would make a bit of a splash :)

reply

Oh or, mine the area around the portal, low yield nuclear sea mines

reply

How about a bunch of Tall Boy bombs dropped from Lancaster bombers? I mean, it worked against the Tirpitz, right? :-)

reply

ooohh! like dropping giant lawn darts from orbit! not as flashy as giant robots, but loads of fun!

A missile? Yeah, a bigger version of those tank-buster rockets, with a very hard sharp armour-piercing nose, and then the explosion is timed to go off a split second later after the main payload has entered the Kaiju's body. I wondered why they spent so much time hammering at the Kaijo with the Jaeger's fists, when they could have put the heavy artillery into action right at the start. More entertaining to see a boxing match, I guess ...

reply

As I said missiles and bombs and other heavy artillery are much less effective because their capabilities are very limited, have much higher chance of missing their targets and they are not flexible, and they stand a much higher chance of destroying human life than saving it. And as I mentioned before, it would make more sense if the Jaegers were created as a final resort of sorts...I do not believe the humans would start creating these expensive giant fighting robots right of the bat. I believe the humans would've tried using every other method they could think of to fight the Kaijus including using heavy military grade artillery beforehand, but all these methods must've failed, and that would've prompted them to create bigger and better weapons of defense thus the Jaegers were created.

The Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War should do the trick, but I'll likely need to be beefed up a bit to make sure it gets through that category 5 and up Kaiju.

If everyone remembers, that last cat 5 Kaiju survived a head on nuclear explosion.

Nice idea! I have never played gears of war and I didn't know that existed, thanks.

Chemical or biological warfare. Virus, cancer, drugs, poison, anything that dissolves, burns, destabilizes, fuses or destroys organic material... Sending airborne pathogens into the other world would be a sure way to destroy them all...

To see or not to see that is the question...

reply

That sounds even more farfetched than bombs and missiles, how would the humans even get close enough to inject the Kaiju with chemical poisons? And sending airborne pathogens and bio weapons into the world would just kill millions of humans and do more harm than good.

Genetic viruses need only target certain species or even a variant. It's actually possible to target specific genes (DNA strands) for one race, gender or even somebody who smokes cigarettes.

Or you could go the cheap and proven way of using known viruses that we already have a cure for that will kill them off (think World War Z). Chemical warfare, ummmm Gulf War, Aum Shinrikyo using Sarin & VX Gas, we've been getting very effective at using those as well.

Two persons were injured and a 28-year-old man died, who is believed to be the only fully documented victim of VX ever in the world https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum_Shinrikyo#Incidents_before_1995

http://dujs.dartmouth.edu/2013/03/genetically-engineered-bioweapons-a-new-breed-of-weapons-for-modern-warfare/

It's actually not far fetched at all and got to be cheaper and easier than building huge machine. As for getting close to Kaiju, ummm what movie did you watch?? Up close and personnel. Anyway, what are missiles used for? Actually, why would humans even want to go near them. It should have been drones and remote control all the way.

To see or not to see that is the question...

reply

It is actually the worst idea ever.

1) Viruses, diseases, etc. work very slowly. What you just inject Kaiju and let it roam the world for 5days before it develops some rash? :D And then 20 more days before it falls and dies off?
2) There is no way to transport the viruses to the aliens. Remember that they tried nukes. So if energy cannot pass through, viruses can't either.
3) The delivery method would have to near instant. Like a virus net over the Breach so that any emerging Kaiju would get the virus immediately. Do you know many viruses that remain active in cold temperatures in water in heavy pressure environment?

reply

Of course there are other cheaper ways of fighting the Kaiju, but they're not as effective...other people have suggested lasers and nuclear bombs, but those are less effective and the capabilities are very limited. Firstly you need to be able to fight underwater and lasers are useless underwater. Lasers, bombs and missiles could work when fighting the Kaijus on land but as I said the capabilities are very limited, you could still miss the Kaijus and these weapons are not flexible...if you miss your target these bombs, missiles and lasers would just destroy the surrounding buildings and structures causing massive structural and human damage and you would end up causing more harm than good. Similar problem could happen at sea too.
Also, of you want to destroy something, destroy it at the source...just damaging the surface would not solve the problem...just fighting the Kaijus would not destroy them for good, those aliens that created the Kaijus would just continue to send more and more Kaiju one after another and eventually us humans would not be able to keep up and all our resources would dry up. Hence in the movie the humans wanted to destroy the Kaijus at the source which was the bridge between the human world and the Kaiju world, to prevent anymore Kaijus from passing through the bridge into the human world. But that would've been difficult for the humans to do with missiles and bombs...I think some ppl may have forgotten that only the Kaijus are able to pass through the bridge because of their genetic code...anything else would've just deflected off it like it always had in the past. How would the humans be able to ride a Kaiju into the bridge whilst attaching a bomb to it? It's difficult to do.

Although the Jaegers were very expensive to make but they were the most effective way to fight the Kaijus, and since they were basically giant human-like robots piloted by real humans, the Jaegers were able to fight the Kaijus with much more precision and flexibility, which lasers, bombs and other artillery lack.
Also I would think that before the Jaeger problem was even created, the humans would've tried every possible way they could think of to fight the Kaijus, this movie is set in the near future so I think they would've tried using ordinary military grade weapons and artillery. My guess is that all these weapons and methods would've been ineffective against the Kaijus, especially as they evolved, so that prompted the Jaeger program to be created...I doubt the Jaegers were the humans first plan of defense...it would make more sense if the Jaegers were created because most if not all other methods had failed.

reply

You know! Human's could have made their own Kaiju!

I doubt women will ever be as entertaining as my $200 laptop.

reply

how though? How would they be able to create their own Kaiju? I suppose they could create their own Kaijus using biometrics and chemistry from dead Kaijus as an analogue or base for creating their own Kaijus, but that would take a very long time, it could easily take scientists many years of studying and analysing the Kaiju's biology and chemistry to make a Kaiju, and even then the humans might not even succeed, creating a Kaiju is like trying to create a whole new different kind of animal from scratch, it's very hard and would take years maybe even decades for humans to make. The humans didn't have alot of time to waste, I think it takes much less time and effort to create the technology for the Jaegers and build them, than creating a Kaiju. From what was depicted in the movie, it seemed like it only took the humans a few years or even less to build the Jaegers, building a giant fighting robot would be easier and quicker as oppose to making a completely new giant biological creature.
And btw considering how much stronger the Jaegers were at fighting and killing the Kaijus in the movie, especially Gipsy Danger, it's more effective for the humans to fight the Kaijus using the Jaegers than creating their own Kaijus which potentially could be inferior in design.

reply

Wow.. You are such a pessimist lol.. Maybe we should send you to fight the Kaiju

I doubt women will ever be as entertaining as my $200 laptop.

reply

lol I wouldn't say I'm pessimistic exactly, but I do like to be objective and realistic about certain things...even for such a movie like Pacific Rim that has giant robots fighting giant monsters, you still need to have at least some realistic sense of mind.

I would love to pilot a Jaeger, but sadly I'm inexperienced and untrained...otherwise I would love to co-pilot Gipsy Danger with Raleigh & Mako! there wouldn't be enough room in that cockpit for 3 people though, but if they could alter Gipsy 2.0's design so that it has room for 3 pilots, then I would love to.

Lol.. sounds like you want to have a threesome over there.

And that's only a single destroyer. 90 cell missile launch system, a 5" gun, CIWS, 25mm cannon, 30 knots+.

62 vessels in service. All of them are armed to the teeth.

We also have Cruisers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticonderoga-class_cruiser
Too many missiles to speak of.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Carriers stationed hundreds of miles away for safety loaded down with ordinance that's just begging to blow something up. B52's that can loiter forever just itching for a drop. B1's that can go like stink and get to the appropriate area and out in seconds. A10's that are armed to the teeth and can lurk forever.

To go over the top, you could re-commission the Iowa class battleships and fill the magazines with as much 16" as you can muster. You can fire from 20 miles out so there's no worry about them getting you. There's over-watch from Navy and Airforce so they'll let you know what's what and you can go well over 35 knots and bug out if you need to.

The point being, "Giant machines that beat up monsters, the movie" is awesome! Don't ever change Pacific Rim!

reply

I like rail guns too! They could kill any Kaiju!

Everyone is super nice to me.. Except women are a little bit nicer xD

reply

Since we know they're just flesh and blood just about any conventional non-nuclear weapon will penetrate straight through them. Depleted uranium round, rail guns, lasers, whatever, but that doesn't stop more and more bigger and stronger ones coming through. So, like I've said before strap a biological weapon that has been tried and tested on the kaiju and send it through.

To see or not to see that is the question...
