I just re-watched it yesterday and enjoyed it more. I'm wondering how you fans of the mecha and kaiju genres feel about this film. If you watched or read these when you were younger, how did this movie make you feel, what was right, and what was wrong? I grew up on Toho's Godzilla films (they were my Star Wars) and I like Godzilla (2014) more than Pacific Rim (I guess I'm weird or something) but how did you guys like it?
I am a self-proclaimed otaku who grew up watching a lot of old classic Japanese Tokusatsu and Kaiju/Mecha style shows like these, and that's why Pacific Rim appeals to me so much, and I love it, it's a great entertaining and fun popcorn movie and I enjoy every minute of it. I think a movie like this would probably appeal more to people who are more familiar with this Kaiju/Mecha style genre and have seen more Japanese shows like this...as oppose to someone who is completely new to this style. I think for someone who has never seen a movie like this and is not familiar with this genre would probably think it's "too cheesy" or "weird", or "only for little kids" or just "plain bad". I have noticed that most people who like this movie are the ones who have watched alot of Japanese shows like this or are familiar with this type of classic Japanese genre.
