"Ravenous" makes "The Revenant" look like a Crayon Drawing
That was very.........sneaky.
shareYou know, I've seen bits and pieces of Ravenous and I kind of agree. Both films have a similar dark and gritty feel to them. Not to mention, a sense of blood lust and raw violence. The difference is that Ravenous has dark humor and craziness.
That's one of the main reasons why I put that movie on my 'Films That Look/Feel Or Would Be An Episode of Tales From The Crypt' list.
Bingo! Ravenous, with a few comparable elements, is a much stronger film. I loved how there was some dark, dark humor inserted into the rather brutal story.
The Revenant was enjoyable, but it certainly played it safe. Ravenous was a gory, unconventional total original. The Revenant is the neutered poodle to Ravenous's crazed pitbull.
I liked "The Revenant," but some of it dragged and there were a few parts clearly put in for political reasons, such as the completely nonsensical rape/castration towards the end. Stuck out like a sore thumb in the movie that already suffered from the audience's minds wandering because it was so painfully slow in parts. You could get up and leave easily for 10+ minutes in this movie and return with nothing much being missed.
