Leonardo DiCaprio didn't deserve his Oscar

You're supposed to award people based on their performance, not who's been nominated the most times without winning. If Leo already had an Oscar, The Revenant wouldn't have even been nominated for Best Actor. His performance was extremely over-the-top.

reply

Hey, how did you read my mind? Came here to say this. Leo had maybe 20 lines in the film, plus grunting and grimacing. Meh.

reply

WHat does that have to do with him getting an Oscar.

reply

How exactly was it "over-the-top?"

if you are a fur tapper living in 1800's , how are you gonna puke by eating a bison liver ? dont you have to eat wild animals all the time ?

agony and pain can be shown with out shouting 1000 times over and over again....it just wreaks of desperation to win oscar...like "gimme oscar..look at my face..i am shouting anf acting"

reply

People in 1800's dont eat raw meat all the time you dumb fk

If you're any person at any time, chowing down on an ultra-rich piece of organ meat after having nothing in your stomach for a week or two will cause some overwhelming.

reply

Most of the first hour he was carried around by the other actors who probably made minimum wage while Leonardo was paid 40 million to just lay there. Nice work if you can get it!

reply

leonardo dicaprio won oscar for shouting...he is just a movie star who is lucky because he works with top directors

reply

I'll watch it again for sure and focus on DiCaprio's performance more. So far, I might agree with you that he didn't deserve an Oscar (of course, other performances that year must be factored in), but I don't think he was over a top.

reply

Well your really going to hate these next Oscars. Because of the big controversy of no blacks winning any this last time, they will gift several Oscars to Blacks this next time. If I was Black, i would hate to win one in 2017 because I would always be wondering if I won it out only because of this "affirmative action" type reason.

reply

obtec2001: My thoughts exactly. I always hope that the award is given solely on merit, but that seems impossible in the Byzantine world of the cinema. Let us pray that there be an excellent black actor nominated next time.

I can guarantee you that Denzel Washington will be nominated (and will most likely win the Oscar) for his excellent acting performance in Fences.

reply

Frankly, I thought Tom Hardy was better.

reply

No one deserves an Oscar. Its just a popularity contest and completely political. Screw all awards. How about an Oscar for us, the viewer, who sat through 2 hours of Leo pretending to be a mountain man?

reply

An Oscar for the scenery! That is some great cinematography. But I did want to see Hardy punished for his treachery.

reply

The scenery was one of depressing and grim cold, cloudy and unmitigated desolation, dead trees everywhere--here's Calgary's low temperature forecast for Dec 6th, 7th and 8th: ten degrees below zero--must be fun to live there lol

Though I detest Leo as a person, he's usually a decent actor and not usually as horrible as his performance in this equally horrible movie (it's not a film). The Wolf of Wall Street would have been more appropriate. I wonder what material they used to imitate snow, since all the snow on earth has melted due to Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Gore and other Democrats who have destroyed earth with their huge carbon footprint, leading to Democrat (Wo)man made global warming.

reply

I did wonder about the snow, if they were filming somewhere on location in the winter, or if they actually set up some of those sets.

This wouldn't be the first time an Oscar has been awarded to an actor more because of his lifetime work than a particular role. I agree Wolf of Wall Street was a more impressive performance, and I'm also fond of The Aviator. Anyway, The Revenant was a long movie, but it flew by - always a sign of a good film.
