Everyone is an idiot

This movie was shot in -20 degree conditions, no green screen, has the most beautiful cinematography in modern history, great acting, directing, nine month production schedule, DiCaprio's first Oscar, Lubezki's brilliant one-takes, and this is not in the Top 250? WHAT IS GOING ON? This is a testament to great filmmaking. Bring this film back to people's attention because it not only is a great movie, but an unbelievable triumph with a backstory that raises awareness for climate change. This is a blueprint of how movies should be made.

Agreed

No green screen and one shot cinematography gimmicks don't make this movie an entertaining or memorable film. It felt like a chore to watch with its brutally slow pace. Birdman was better.

I think you answered your own question. Nothing you listed in and of itself makes a movie, in general, worthy being in the Top 250 (loved by the average moviegoer). Just to clarify, I'm not saying that The Revenant should or shouldn't be in the Top 250 and neither am I saying that the IMDb Top 250 is even a list that should hold any weight. That said, the fact that you leave out anything about the story is telling.

A great story can be compelling with no budget, unknown actors, no fancy film making techniques, and never be recognized by an award committee. Again, not directing this specifically at this movie.

I totally agree. I can see why some people don't like it, it is a bit slow, with very little dialogue, but I love it
