...best part of the movie. Incredible. Amazing! Otherwise, it was too long, because the lead character would have taken less time to heal and recover than the length of this movie. Two and three-quarters hour's worth of moaning and groaning. After two hours, I was rooting for another bear to finish the job the other one started.

It was the best part for sure.Also,the performances were good.Writing was horrible which is what you too have a problem with ,I suppose.
shareThat is pretty much what I said on my post. The cinematography was excellent but the music in particular just endlessly beat me down for 2 1/2 hours. Personally I was cheering for Fitzgerald. He was right about suggesting a mercy killing after the bear attack.

What are words for when no one listens anymore
Cinematography was meh IMO. Digital cameras, constant use of the wide angle lens, decent yet sporadic long takes and too many shots of the nature were looking directly up at the sky. Not oscar worthy.
Hateful Eight should have won that oscar for its use of Ultra-Panavision 70, but the Revenant's studio paid out more for the win. H8 8 used a dead format that isn't taught in film school anymore so the cinematographer had to adapt, used 70mm film in extremely harsh conditions, had more breathtaking location shots, they too used a lot of natural lighting and every single frame in Minnie's allowed the 2.76:1 aspect ratio to shine. It was truly a remarkable feat in the history of film.
Fact is, the Revenant's style was pretty average, it also worked better in Birdman and most Terry Gilliam movies.
