Fairy Godmother magic nonsense

Okay, I was into Cinderella's story then all of the sudden some silly magic fairy stuff.

Totally took me out of it.

She looked more of a freak than a fairy.

Another version coming out is an animated version ,"Charming", with John Cleese as the Fairy Godmother. How freaky is that?

I actually agree OP. I really liked the movie overall (just rated it 8/10) but for me, the tone of the Fairy Godmother bit didn't fit with the rest of the movie. It seemed too much like a cartoon and I'm not talking about cgi. It was just different from the rest of the movie. Granted, they needed a sense of levity after her stepmother forced her to stay home but I wish they directed it differently.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Two sides to everything, I guess, but I loved Helena Bonham Carter's performance. (And, no, I haven't seen her in much else). She was delightful-funny, scatterbrained and yet so sympathetic and warm. (Not to mention absolutely beautiful) Wish she was MY Fairy Godmother....

I guess you're just not into fairy tales and fantasy. If you hate that genre so much, you should avoid it in the future.

"Magic Fairy stuff" happens to be part of the original story.
Works perfectly for me.

That's because it's basically a remake of the 1950's cartoon and there was a fairy godmother in it. It's also in the book this story is based on. That's why it's there.

If you consider it sudden, you never watched, read, or listened to any version of the fairy tale. Which world are you from?
