I was not impressed with Helena Bonham Carter's interpretation. She seemed more weird than whimsical.

I kinda agree. it was the one thing that they could have done better although it doesn't change my rating in any way.

she seemed kinda like depp's mad hatter more than a fairy god mother.

Yes, like she thought she was in another Tim Burton film.

What do you think would happen to the stepfamily in a Tim Burton film? Hopefully Helena will go all Bellatrix on them.

I loved Helena Bonham Carter's interpretation, as I thought is was a nice break from the traditional 'grandmotherly' Fairy Godmother that we've seen a thousand times before.

She reminded me more of Cinderella's quirky Aunt, then a 'Mother' figure, and I thought it was a nice comedy break from all the 'sweetness' in the story. 
