She wasn't a slave, she was forced to be a servant in her parent's home. The father didn't leave a legacy/will, leaving the property to his daughter. Ella, could have left at any time.

nothing about this film is historically accurate. there is no set time period and no specific kingdom. there is a pumpkin that turns into a coach and lizard people as footmen, but you're upset about a black man. you're a moron and a racist, but you knew that already.
