Okay...I've gotta step in for Mad Max's Costume design.
I loved, love, loved the costume design in Cinderella. The costumes were absolutely beautiful, the colors were exactly as Disney would envision it to be and while I adored everything I saw, I didn't see anything...well...unique. It was all very expected. Expected and done well. You knew there would be the flowing gown, the color, the pageantry. I appreciated that the costume designer and team got nominated.
Mad Max is one of those movies that probably 35 years ago would not have even gotten nominated for anything. Films that deal in sci-fi/horror/fantasy never did. But the work is there. It was challenging. Given the challenge to design for a future dry apocalyptic world based on sheds of the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries and make one believe you are there was achieved and more so. IT was dry, shredded, dusty, little to null from leader to peasant...If all you saw was 'the men in pants'...you missed a hell of a lot. I.e..the wasteland costume design was VERY exceptional, Imortan Joe's costume did it's job of showing you an old man who was a soldier in a long lost war, the costumes for others had individuality as well as the gangs that showed up, their costumes were...my goodness I am sure they poured over history books for weeks and tried to make it all futuristic and succeeded. Anyway that is my take.
I actually liked the make-up more than the costumes in Mad Max and I LOVED the cinematography and production design the best. Mad Max wasn't for everybody, but I think it got what it deserved.
consequences-schmonsequences as long as I'm rich.🐇
