Why do some people hate this?

I mean what's there to hate about this movie. The cast is pretty spot on,the visuals are very pretty and easy on the eyes, acting is pretty good, the lavender is song is very pretty and I think adds a lot to the movie. I can understand people being upset because they thought it was going to be a musical I mean I was kinda disappointed too,but the original didn't have very memorable songs unlike Jungle book and Jungle book kept them and that movie was awesome not that this movie isn't as well but Jungle book kept a lot about what people loved about the original. I've seen the hate more on Facebook and stuff btw. I think this is a very beautiful movie and a very good Cinderella movie.

I disagree that the animated film didn't have memorable songs...'Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo' and ' A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes' ...are songs almost everyone remembers from the film. Cinderella just didn't have that many songs, it wasn't a super big musical film like some other Disney films.

As for why people hate it, the two complaints I've seen are that 'it doesn't bring anything new to the story'....another words people don't like that it was true to its source material rather then a re-imagining.

And the second complaint is from people that don't like how sweet and kind Ella is, they feel she was too much of a pushover.

I don't agree with either complaint but other then the constant picking on Lily James looks, those are the two big ones.

You simply can't please everyone. No matter how the tale is portrayed, there's always someone who'll dislike one thing or another. I, for example, hated that scene when King Kit was at the chateau and Cinderella wouldn't help her animal friends to make her presence known.

I personally love this movie. My husband bought me this movie on BluRay for Valentine's Day. So sweet :)

While I liked it, there are some pretty big issues with the character.

1950 Cinderella - She really felt like she was trapped & isolated.

2015 Cinderella - She could still go horseback riding, visit the market, talk to her former estate servants. Seems like she could have easily escaped into a better situation.

1950 Cinderella - her low point was absolutely brutal with how the sisters just tore into her mothers dress. We get the much needed cartharsis when the Fairy Godmother arrives.

2015 Cinderella - too many low points & barely a ripped seam to really get a satisfying catharsis.

1950 Cinderella fights to be free of her attic prison and at least participates in her rescue by telling the mice to get the key in the end.

2015 Cinderella sits there like a ditz singing while ignoring the mice & wholly depends on the prince happening to hear her through the window.

So yeah, while I can look passed these issues, others can't & that's why some hate it.

Cinderella 2015 She did not know the king and soldiers were at her house. Somehow the MICE find out and open the window for her voice to be heard outside.

To also add, she refused the deal from Lady Tremaine which would have allowed her to marry Kit, as long as Lady Tremaine was an advisor and she would not subject Kit to her. In that attic scene, not only she is unaware that Kit is there (keep in mind he was also in disguise, the Grand Duke had no idea he was there) but she'd rather let him go then have him spend a lifetime dealing with her stepmother.
