Prince's backstory
I really love the prince's backstory. Even though he is royalty, he has many similarities to Cinderella. He apparently lost one parent in his youth (though we don't know exactly what happens to his mom) and loses his remaining parent, whom he is very close to, as a young adult.
He is also put in the position of being used as a poltical pawn and marrying for advantage. (I loved when Ella asked, "Whose advantage?") He doesnt appear overly caught up in class structure, as he appears to have a close friendship with his captain and doesn't blink an eye at Ella's non-royal status. He seems to really be conscientious about being a good ruler and learning from his dad, instead of just accepting it as entitlement.
The relationship with his dad was especially very sweet, and I lose it every time the Prince curls up next to his father on the bed. It makes me wish the king had lived long enough to spend time with Ella. They have that brief interaction where she tells the King his son loves him very much, and I wish they could have known each other.
