The 'Romance' Between Shaggy and Velma (Spoiler)

I, first, wanna say that I love this show. The idea that the whole
series is one big mystery is pretty cool. Fred is pretty funny when he's
not talking about traps but he's always talking about traps.
Daphne has, literally, a couple of moments but I have to find them cause
she's not that memorable in this version.

Another big problem is the "romance" between Shaggy and Velma. First off, it
didn't last long at all and the majority of it was in secret. There's an episode, I think it's "When The Cicada Calls" where they have a suspect but Daphne
doubts it which makes Fred jealous and Shaggy and Scooby call him on it.
Now, Scooby and Velma have been going at it for the past couple of episodes
because Scooby was jealous and, now, he's gonna be the one to call people out about their jealousy? And the whole romance is about 11 or 12 episodes long and in those episode episodes, you just get glimpses of their romance.

They didn't give them the treatment that they gave to Fred and
Daphne. Not nearly enough treatment.

I was pissed when Shaggy picked Scooby over Velma but after Scooby met that girl dog, Nova, and started to like her, I started to hate him cause it implies that
only Scooby can be happy. So, you have a problem with Shaggy going out with Velma but you and Nova are alright? What a great friend you are.

Hopefully when the new Scooby show comes, which will happen, they'll
bring back the possibility of Shaggy and Velma cause this was awful. They didn't even really give these two a chance to be a couple to be honest. Anyway, that's my little rant. What do u think?

Back in the good ol' days when Ted Turner ran Cartoon Network, there was a hilarious promo gimmick involving a romance between Velma Dinkley and Johnny Bravo.
Believe me, that was more realistic that the Velma-Shaggy BS.

I gotta admit, CN was great when Turner was in charge.
Now, it's just plain sewage!!

Never knew Ted Turner headed CN, interesting. Yup, CN was great in the 90's.

Bruce Lee was real. Batman was never real.

The romance is nauseating. Oh, and have a cool day. I wouldn't be hipster enough if I didn't mention the cool word in a reply ;)

The first time I watched the series I was horrified at the so-called focus on "character development", and the relationships between Fred-Daphne and the love triangle between Shaggy-Scooby-Velma. I thought it detracted quite a bit from the what had always been the attraction of the franchise--the mysteries. Then, as the show began to unravel, and it became evident that Mystery, Inc. was not a series of individual mysteries but a complex narrative with an overarching story, it made a lot more sense to me to explore the characters in a way that hadn't been before.

I didn't necessarily agree with the "love triangle" thing, but parts of it were funny (the first "Hex Girls" episode, for example, where both Velma and Daphne lament their "guy problems", Fred undergoes a meltdown confronting his feelings for Daphne, and Shag and Scoob have their first big fight) and it didn't wind up consuming the show in the end, as the writers had the good sense to end that bit of nonsense early on and focus on the overall story.

Overall, though, I tended to like the wit and self-deprecating humor in this series quite a bit. Along with the fantastic animation and art design, it made it one of my favorite Scooby incarnations ever, definitely.

I felt that the whole idea behind the Velma-Shaggy romance was that it _was_ bizarre and ill-advised, and as a result ended very quickly. Velma clearly saw something in Shaggy that she was attracted to, but as a whole he was far too immature to be in a relationship, as she quickly found out.
