THE FINAL EPISODE-SPOILER ALERT

In the concluding episode of this series, the gang managed to destroy the "Evil Identity" and the "alternate universe" it had created.
Which means that all the previous episodes never existed!
And the characters who lost their lives (Cassidy, Hot Dog Water, Nova, and even Professor Pericles) were alive and well.
In fact, Cassidy and Mr. E. were happily married, as were the mayor and the sheriff!

Much as I generally love happy endings, this episode was disappointing and anti-climactic.
It's not unlike the entire fifth season of DALLAS being Pam Ewing's dream!
Or that the entire series NEWHART was nothing but a dream!

At the very end, the gang leaves Crystal Cove, supposedly never to return.
So--was this series supposed to be a prequel to SCOOBY DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? and subsequent programs?

reply

I thought the final was great, but I don't consider it a happy ending. The gang has no emotional connection to Crystal Cove anymore and feel like strangers in a universe they don't belong to. The new universe may be filled with their friends and family, but they are not the same people they grew up with. And it's because of that that they decide to leave.

Yes, a little. They even used a laugh track, like in Where Are You, in the final shot.

So what you're saying is that the gang had spent their entire lives in that alternate universe until the final episode?
Now, that's scary!

And it's sad that this series was the prequel to the emotionally vapid (except for the love between Shaggy and Scooby) and poorly made Hanna-Barbera series.

Yes I agree; it's NOT a happy ending.
