Loved the movie but (SPOILER)

First I have to say that after I watched this movie in the morning I rewatched it in the evening. It's now one of my favorites and I love the characters and the actors/actresses, they had the best chemistry.

The only issues I have with the movie is that they were kinda cruel to Charlie after he kisses Sam instead of Mary Elisabeth. I can understand the fallout from Sam and Mary Elisabeth but that Patrick completely stops hanging out with him is what I don't understand. I understand not wanting to talk to him in the hallway after the Brad incident but I mean before that happened, my guess is that the Brad thing happened about 3 weeks or a month after the Truth or Dare incident.

The other thing is not a big deal but it still annoys me. We never find out why Charlie's best friend Michael shot himself, I kind of wanted to know more about that story allthough it was probably irrelevant to the story of the film.

And the last thing is, I want more. I got connected with the characters and I want to see more. I truly hope there will be a sequel someday if they pull it off right, if not then they can leave it alone. I also kinda wanna see Charlie and Sam as a couple. What do you guys think of the idea of a sequel? What would the circumstances be, how far into the future would you like it to go? ect.

Also i'm a 17 year old male who's never read the book, if that helps anyone.

I'm a 20 year old male, and I loved the movie. I still end up rewatching it every couple of months. It felt like one of the most realistic teen movies in years. I bought a copy of the book to finally read it but haven't gotten around to it. I would love if the author/director would do a follow up to show Charlie through the end of high school and looking toward college and to see if he and Sam would still have a chance. The chemistry was so palpable, it would be really great if they could bring everyone together in a few years.

I think he felt like he had to choose between Charlie and his other friends. Unsurprisingly, he chose the friends he'd known the longest.

I agree with you about the shunning. It didnt feel right. I can see a few days. Even a week. But to ignore him at school and not say one word to him that whole time just came off as not just harsh but nonsensical. They could have spoken to him just in a way that made it clear they were disappointed/mad/conflicted/whatever and that would have been enough. But ALL of them shutting him out COMPLETELY for all that time just didnt compute for me. Especially Patrick who could have snuck away moments to whisper things to him to let him know he's not hated but that what he did introduced real complications. Especially since it was his question that caused all the trouble! And its completely unforgivable that Sam didnt say something. Chewed him out. Asked him WHY he did it. Something! I wanted to shout at her HE DID IT BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU! WHAT THE *beep* IS WRONG WITH YOU! ARE YOU BLIND? IF YOU COULD SEE HIS CHARACTER SO WELL AT THAT FIRST PARTY AND WHY HE IS THE WAY HE IS THEN WHY IS THIS SOME BIG MYSTERY FOR YOU!?

But I didnt...

And the fact that him beating up the football players to save Patrick suddenly made everything better was even worse! They go from complete shunning to hugging! Did not work for me at all...

I had no problem with what we are given about Charlies friends suicide. Thats all we needed. This story isnt about that story. Introducing more than that would have been pointless and might have distracted from the other emotional crisis point in his past that was building up to playing such a huge role in his life by the end of the film.

And PLEASE no sequel. This film is a purposeful snap shot in time. I dont need to see Charlie in college or Charlie being a successful writer as an adult. Its a coming of age film. You dont make sequels to coming of age films. You cant ever recapture that point in time. I mean thats the point. Theres no place for exploring what happens after this. It would just be a completely different movie with the same characters. You need to come to your own conclusions based on what you saw. I assume things turned out ok for him. Whether he wound up in a real relationship with Sam doesnt really matter. Its about him going from unsurity to breaking point to stability and coming out ok. I got the feeling the worst of it was behind him no matter what he ends up doing in life. And frankly I dont see him and Sam being a long term couple.
