I really didn't like this movie.

In particular the actor playing Charlie was really poor, Emma gets by, but she struggles. I could overlook all that but this movie seems to be consistently missing something, I never really knew who these people really are, their actions from one moment to the next don't seem to be very natural, too many things, like Charlie's relationship to his English teacher, for example, seem to have been phoned in and we never really get to understand the dynamic.

I found it rather contrived and boring overall, without a lot of redeeming features.

Yes and no, I don't always give the rating I think a movie deserves, Interstellar is a solid 7 or 8, just not 9+ or whatever it was at the time I gave it that low score. Likewise Battleship isn't a 10 but it's way better than the 5.9 it's got at the moment. If the movie houses can stack the deck, we as the audience can too.

Having said that I've seen many decent movies rated a 6+, and Perks isn't as good as them, so a 5 is my honest reaction.

lmao what a retarded rebuttal....you are the reason crap like avatar breaks box office records.

You should probably just rewatch Dead Poets Society if you wanted that to be the central part of the movie. The character of the teacher served its purpose. Sure he could have given him a few more words of wisdom but he was only supposed to be that positive beacon at school that made a difference for Charlie. Not some major character in his story.

I don't agree with that at all. That makes your ratings an attempt to manipulate the average rather than giving the film what it honestly deserves in your opinion. IMO you should give Interstellar 8 and Battleship 7...
(I have them at 9 and 7, and yes I really did like Interstellar that much - especially how it implemented Einstein's theory of relativity)

I do agree that "Perks" is worth around 5-6 rating though. It had some flaws, not bad but not great either.

Why do they give out letter jackets to marching band? It's not a sport! We all know it!

I agree. I didn't like how it was strung together. Random things just kept on happening and the movie didn't beg any attention until the final 8ths of it. I don't know why people say this movie is 'palpable' and all.

A good example is that part where Sam slams Charlie for kissing her in the truth or dare game and they don't even talk for weeks. And then as soon as he saves her brother, she's like "oh yeah, we can hang out together"

But, unlike you, I kinda found the lead actor's acting pretty good.

Clark: Jonathan Kent; isn't it a little past your bedtime?

reply

I think people are saying the movie is palpable because random things happening is just what life is like, there's no well-thought out plot line in life, things just happen randomly. That's also something I like about the movie.

reply

I second that. I loved the book when I first read it as a teenager, still love it to this day. But the film is just disappointing
