"If it's important to you, he should be here"

A scene that doesn’t seem to get much attention—but one that expertly showcases Charlie’s maturity and sensitivity—takes place at the Sadie Hawkins Dance when Charlie asks Sam where Craig is. She explains that school dances aren’t really Craig’s thing—something along those lines—and Charlie says something like, “If it’s important to you, he should be here.”

If you love someone, you should want to support her, which includes supporting—and being around for—her interests.

A great Charlie-Sam moment, IMO.

But if it's not his thing why should he go?

I’ve already explained why (as did Charlie).

You’re free to disagree, of course, and perhaps a great many people do. But I think it’s considerate and sweet.

Wasn't he much older? It wasn't really appropriate for him to go to the dance anyway. The whole event is silly anyway, they're kids!

I don't disagree with you but I kinda imagined the discussion went like this:
'sorry babe, can't make it'
'no, of course, no problem its fine - its just a stupid dance anyway'
'cool, thanks.'
"sure, no problems'.

I kinda just imagine Sam playing it down.
Doesn't mean the guy wasn't a jerk - but I doubt Sam made a big deal and let him know it was important to her.

Because if you're in a relationship you do things for eachother. Its not all about what you want.

Yes!! I agree with you 100%!

If I remember correctly, he was in college, going to a high school dance isn't the greatest thing.

I understand your point, but at the same time the guy has a say too. Really, it depends on the person. Some might like to go to the dance, some may not.

Her response to this kind of confused me. It sounded like she was pissed at him. Her tone of voice was odd though so I really cant tell.

Can anyone enlighten me because for some reason it really bothers me, not knowing.
