How did this movie compare to the book?
Has anyone read the book and seen the movie?
shareVery closely, though showing rather than telling about the food.
The major difference I noticed was that in the book the Mum could not even make decent toast, whereas in the movie the narrator is grateful that she could at least make toast. Though relating to the title of the book and movie, this is a rather small change. The characters and their relationships are the same, showing the future foodie-celebrity as behaving very, very badly to an emotionally vulnerable lower-class woman who could cook circles around his now-dead Mum. The memoir-writer did not turn Mrs. Potts into a monster, nor did he paste over what an appalling little prig he was, especially to her.
Is it worth the read after watching the movie?
