ex-cop? Seriously?

So we are supposed that an NYPD cop has such skill. I mean it's not like cops are amateurs but really, fighting like that, talking a foreign language is not something a cop would be able to do, language OK, but you don't learn to fight professionals in your local gym or cop school.

Nearly all of the plot descriptions for the film say that he's a former government agent or something. I guess they just didn't show that part in the trailer, if it is infact true.

reply

They say hes a cop in the trailer

reply

I know, but I mean maybe he's also an ex-government agent and the bad guys don't know about that. Maybe that will get revealed in the film. I don't know though. It would seem silly for him to have been an agent, then a cop, then a cage fighter, then a homeless guy.

reply

Maybe if he was a CIA agent (not a cop and cage fighter) and their ripping of person of interest with the bum thing, also it would explain his Russian (horrible I know)

reply

Dude, it's Jason *beep* Statham. He can do whatever needs to get done.

In the film it is revealed that he is more than a cop, he was an elite special ops guy that was so secretive that there are no official records of him, he doesn't officially exist, like a ghost.
Statham plays the same "man with skills" that he seems to play in every other film he's in.

Why is it always these guys taking revenge or protecting girls are always elite special ops guys?...I guess a regular cop simply isn't good enough. Look at Taken, Liam is ex-CIA, in Man on Fire Denzel is Ex-Marine and ex-CIA black ops, in Commando Arnie is ex-Special Forces, in Transporter Statham is ex-SAS, etc. It's so much accepted now in movies that you're not gonna get a film about a regular guy taking revenge or protecting a younger female - they just don't have the skills, it may be seen as far-fetched. The bad guys are always gonna make the mistake of taking from the "wrong guy to mess with".

Except for The Horseman (2008) you might be right, lol

If you had watched the movie attentively you could have heard they they call him an ex special agent.

He hasn't been called an average policemen ever.
