Luke Wright was really stupid in the beginning...

All he had to do was go through the motions and go down and stay down in round two. The fix was in and the Russian Mafia had bet big on the fight. Luke would be compensated for this dive. This isn't rocket science- just throw the fight.

What does he do? He knocks the guy out with one punch and puts him in a coma. And he has some of the most dangerous gangsters in the world after him.

Also his name is "Luke Wright" which sounds very American. As American as apple pie. And he is described in the film as a former veteran NYC police officer.

But Jason Statham doesn't sound like an American in this film.

That said it was a fun movie and I enjoyed it for the most part. The IMDB 6.5 rating (at this time) seems about right.

I don't think he was stupid. I mean he doesn't mind gettin his butt whooped as some sort of weird penance but in this case I really think he hit him once to give a good show so that when he took a dive it would make sense, only to have some lame YouTube star ko in the first round.
