I know it's because the Triads are in the movie and all, but you have to admit there's something hilarious in the fact that the movie is centered around an Asian girl who is targeted because of her memorization skills. It's like Hollywood isn't even trying to hide their overt racism anymore.

Me and my friends watched the trailer for Safe while waiting for the Raid last week. We were among maybe 15 people in the audience and almost everyone burst out laughing (I live in a predominantly Asian city) when the little girl came on talking about how she could memorize really well.

Other than that, this actually looks like a pretty good action flick.

Yeah, true, but it's a well-accepted stereotype that Asian kids have phenomenal numeracy skills and have incredible memory retention.

I'm married to someone from the far east. Unfortunately, she's thick as **** hahahahaha

Fat? Look at the girl's IMDB picture page. She's skinny as a rail. Quite a cute little girl as well.

And to the OP- this isn't racism. Caricaturization, maybe, but not racism. But in my view, it would have been awful hard to find a reason to have her working for the Chinese mob if she was a Swede...

bla bla bla bla. The girl was literally a genius. Not just ""good at math"" I don't see anything stereotypical. Would you rather see another white little girl?

And uh yeah alot of asians have narrow eyes. wtf

stereotyping asians for being good at math is so old is not even funny to laugh at, you should be embarassed to even find it funny anymore

it's not even a stereotype chinese kids score the highest in numeracy in international competitions.
