Really well shot and edited - a surprise.

I expected a standard action flick with not much of a story, and it was that. But it was surprisingly well-made from a technical standpoint, with visually interesting sequences.

I agree. I really liked it. Expected nothing. Love little gems like this.

Agreed. I especially loved the "long takes with no cuts" they did at some scenes, i.e. first assault on Mei, and when Jason drove over that mobster.

The ambitious filmmaking was appreciated. Was not expecting that.

Really solid, entertaining, fun B movie (quick aside: can we actually call a $30M studio movie a "B" movie? I honestly don't know.) from Boaz Yakin, who's an incredibly smart and engaging filmmaker. Statham's accent didn't bother me (he's from wherever Mel Gibson's from in Lethal Weapon) nor did his obligatory boilerplate "save the cat" moments/throughline. I found I wanted slightly more blood (without it things feel too video-gamey for me) and for the national guard or whatever to descend on NYC during any of the like 5 incidents of straight up public mayhem, but otherwise totally dug it.

This movie was a big surprise to me..didn't think it would be that good at all and it was a really good action flick.

I agree. As far as the story/writing/character development is concerned, this movie was a big letdown. By the end of the movie, I felt like it was a below-average story.
But the cinematography blew me away!!! Just brilliant!

 I think it was shot and edited like someone had Parkinsons.
