Especially if they were going to show her naked in the bath in the pond scene. IF it were Marilyn, she would definitely have looked more voluptuous with broad hips and a thin waist that we all know. I'm saying this only because if we expect to see an exact personification of Marilyn in Michelle's acting we should expect an exact replica in her appearance too. That's my take on it, what do you think?
shareWell you can't have everything. Given that M.M. was such a complex character, I think that the casters' priority was to look for a person who will be able to ACT the part of M.M.

She is a relatively full figured actress. Not a size 12 like MM was, but she has a similar hourglass figure. The naked images in the movie (the skinny dipping scene, the getting out of the bath scene when she dropped her towel, was not Michelle Williams. It was in fact a body double. They should've gotten a better body double, a more full-figured woman imo. Really bad wig that the double wears too.

Why just pick on Monroe?
When Daniel Day-Lewis fronts up on the big screen later on this year as the title character in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" will you be expecting "an exact replica in [his] appearance" as President Abe? If there's the slightest deviation in the shape of his beard or his manly hips from the illustrious original's will you be asking for your money back? :-)

To be honest, I sounds like the sort of question that only a guy would ask, a guy more interested in lusting after a glimpse of Monroe's naked torso than in the plot of the movie.
I dread to think what will happen if the women ever start expecting equal rights in the right-to-lust stakes! Will Spielberg be required to show a naked Abe descending into the waters of the Potomac to satisfy the expectations of the female members of his audience? ;-)

Anyway this is a silly thread. If you want to see Marilyn Monroe naked go see her Playboy shots. They are easily found using Google. I think Michelle Williams did a great job portraying her...not just a generic Marilyn but the slightly aging Marilyn who had such deep vanity and insecurity and would commit suicide a few years later. Great depth in performance.
Branagh wasn't as "beautiful" as Olivier, either, but it's better to have a good interpretation of the subject, not just a body double.
