Is she basically a child?
Throughout the movie, I got the impression that Marilyn Monroe had the mind and the vocabulary of a child. Is this on purpose - was she really like that - or was it because of Michelle's performance?

shareShe wasn't a child, she was an intelligent and manipulative woman, who knew exactly how she effected people. She kept an air of childish innocence because it was so appealing, and because it disguised her real intentions.
Haven't you seen any of her films? She has that air of childish vulnerability in all of them, and it's sent many a straight man into raptures.
If we're going to die, let's die looking like a Peruvian folk band!
She was an intelligent and manipulative and, I believe, vulnerable child-like person who gave us some fine performances and paid a price for her neediness. She has my sympathy.
"Did you make coffee...? Make it!"--Cheyenne.
I think what you are referring to was how her insecurity came though at certain times. Her reliance on Lee Strasberg and his wife suggested her need for strong surrogate parental figures, for example. It helps to know that Marilyn had a mostly dysfunctional childhood, and probably needed strong validation as an adult.
