Most of us here won’t be “watching” the movie. We’ll just be fast forwarding to see Ana de Armas naked and having sex or watching clips online somewhere.
She’s totally wrong for the role (should have been a white actress), but she’s gorgeous, so I’ll take any opportunity given to see her strip off her clothes while she’s still young.
Put her up next to Scottish (same nationality as Monroe) or other European women and see how white she is.
Btw when non-Cuban James Franco (who is the spitting image of a young Fidel Castro) was cast to play him, shit hit the fan so hard from people griping he wasn’t Cuban that he was cut loose from the production. People did the same when de Armas was cast as Monroe yet she still made the film. Why?
Also, test audiences griped about her Cuban accent and producers had to spend money in post production to fix it. They wouldn’t have had that issue if they’d cast an American white actress.
A lot of Japanese and Chinese and Korean people have skin as light as this woman. It doesn't make her white. She's clearly a latina. Marilyn Monroe was a Scottish American.
You couldn’t be more wrong. This is one of the best performances I have ever seen. She is Monroe. She looks like Monroe and she is as white and as blonde as MM. She is more Monroe facially in this than body wise but nevertheless this actress nails it. She is definitely phenomenal. There will be no more MM pics after this one. It’s not a happy movie and it is long. They say it’s not a biopic but it really is - just not literally and lots of people MM was with are omitted.
I think you could only say that if you haven't seen Ana de Armas on screen, at least for a while, or you have never seen Monroe, because I saw Ana de Armas, not Monroe.
Just like Kristen Stewart in Spencer. I saw Kristen Stewart, not Lady Diana.
Their faces are too recognizable, and they give a very different feeling from the real persons they play.
But producers have to use them, otherwise none will watch. And people who watch these movies love Monroe or Lady Diana, so they generally see immediately they are not them.
She looked just like her. And she talked like her. She did not have the same body. I have seen both actresses. She did a phenomenal job. At times I forgot that it wasn’t actually MM. I don’t love anything that much where I can’t see what it is. I can see what it isn’t.
They didn’t do anything with her voice. They did have another person do the singing. They didn’t really get around her accent. You barely notice the accent which is more apparent for some reason in the trailer. She looks exactly like MM and and talks like her and it is just unbelievable to see that genius - that you think you are seeing MM. You have to actually remind yourself that she isn’t her. That she’s gone. The movie is brilliant - brilliantly written and directed - but it is really difficult and you are drained at the end. It is also almost 3 hours.
That was the problem - no actress looked like her except maybe Ashley Judd playing Norma as a brunette. I think of all the biopics to do - hers is the hardest to do because of getting the resemblance. I think Sinatra would also be difficult.
