The girl that Jeremy Irons saves in the beginning; what happens to her? And why was she going to jump off a bridge? I don't think any of that is made really clear.
Who was she and why did she want to commit suicide? And why was she suddenly OK after running into Jeremy (she didn't try it again for all we know).

You must have missed a scene. She appears at the hotel in Lisbon, where Gregorius was staying, just before he is leaving for Spain to meet Estephania. She tells, she is the granddaughter of Mendez, The butcher from Lissbon. She just read the book, before she wanted to jump. Gregorius (Jeremy) tell her not to feel guilt.
