I felt that there was some ambiguity in how Amadeu died, based on the comment Jorge made to Estefania at Amadeu's funeral, "You didn't really think I would do it did you?" Was Jorge hinting that he killed Amadeu? What meaning would you give to that comment?
Despite all the talk of a cerebral aneurysm I thought that storyline was meant to add confusion on the nature of Amadeu's demise. It crossed my mind several times that he committed suicide just as his father and the act was so unmentionable that friends and family made up a different version of sorts. Jorge uttering "You didn't really think I would do it did you?" at the funeral was likely a plot device to add to the mystery.
When Estefania rejected him I felt he lost all hope. Amideu was Catholic and a physician. Able to make his self determined death seem natural for religious salvation while avoiding embarrassment to his survivors.
He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.
