Ohio?

I understand why the setting of this film was Ohio in the Dayton area. but why did they film it in West Virginia? The topography is not anything like Ohio:rocky and mountainous with the neighborhood homes perched on steep rolling hills. As a frequent visitor to this part of Ohio, it was very distracting to me. This part of Ohio does not have hills. It is flat as a pancake. And the fact that they made such a big deal bout the Ohio setting with the map pinpointing the train route and all was just really ignorant and amateurish.

I know that the Dayton area is flat but in southeast Ohio the terrain is hilly just like this movie. Of course that part of Ohio is right next to West Virginia so obviously it would be similar.

I've never been to that part of Ohio, but what you say makes sense.

south east of dayton has some small hills and wv in the area it was filmed is pretty flat just has slight rolling hills similar to the area. in fact when you cross the river into ohio from ky on 75 you come down a pretty large hill and go back up another in ohio.

Been down that hill many times, but north of Cincy looks nothing like the topography in this movie. No big deal. It just bothered me.

I'm from the suburbs of Dayton, Ohio, born and raised, and though I've seen Super 8 at least half a dozen times and knew Lillian was supposed to be near Dayton via references to; Dayton, Montgomery County, Brookville et., I had always thought that Lillian was supposed to be South East of it. Sorta near Athens (where my Dad grew up). So the Hilly topography seemed to fit. But today I paused on the map scene (showing the locations where the missing dogs were found) and I saw that Lillian sits to the West of Dayton. The geography there is indeed flat.

Yeah, well, part of what makes this movie feel so mesmerizing to me is the landscape. The hilly neighborhoods where neighbors overlook other neighbors, I really like it. It makes the scenery feel 'bigger'.

That rug really tied the room together.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you one of the most useless, needless, snobby statements I've ever seen.

Im from Dayton, Ohio born and raised and live in Beverly Hills now, I still love where I came from, and you'll live longer living in a rural area than you will in a smog infested rat trap like SoCal, trust me, check your health in 10 years and you'll see for yourself, believe me.
