Standalone movie
I know this movie is different from the other REC movies, but is this movie like a spin-off movie or does this one take place before, during or after the other REC movies?
shareI don't know if you're still looking for an answer after over two months, but here it is anyway: This movie takes place at approximately the same time as the first movie. Then REC 2 happens after.
So, a person could actually see REC 3 standalone, or as the very first one; it wouldn't matter. You could watch 1,2,3,4 or 3,1,2,4 OR 1,3,2,4. But 3 and 1 are interchangeable for the order and both take place before 2.
