Hae won may be a sociopath but still...

Her defending Man Jong against Bok nam makes no sense whatsoever.

reply

Man Jong is Bok Nam's husband. Hae Won was defending the boat driver who first took her to the island.

Though they do look alike cuz they all have the same haircut.

I don't care WHO she was defending or why. She SAW Bok-nam's child be murdered, and she KNEW Bok-nam didn't do it, and she lied, placing Bok-nam in extreme jeopardy. She (Hae won) was total scum.

That's why Bok-nam goes after her. She tells her herself "you are an unkind person" when trying to kill her.
Few things are as bad in this world as people who can prevent evil from happening and do nothing about it, and that's precisely what Hae-won did it. She had several opportunities in the movie to do good to others, redeem herself, and she just didn't care at all. Not trying to saying she should die because of it, but that's why Bok-nam tried to kill her, because she realized that, by omission, which is a capital sin in catholic religion.

A quote:

"We have already seen the nature of sins of commission. They are either the mortal sins, which separate the soul from God in this life, and, if not repented of, in the life to come; or they are the venial sins, which are the disease though they are not the death of the soul; and these are the greatest evils, next after mortal sin, that the heart of man can conceive. They are the preludes of mortal sin in many, and are punished by detention from the vision of God, both in this world and in the world to come. This, then, was the first part of our subject; the last part will be sins of omission. The first was the sin of doing evil; the last, the sin of leaving good undone".

It just shows how selfish and traitorous she is. Those two are her ticket off the island, she already knows Bok-Nam has it in for her as she lied to the maritime policeman about not seeing anything when Yeong-Hee died. In fact, by the point that Yeong-Hee had died, she had already decided to do anything to get off the island, even if it meant allying with the *beep* old women and their bad offspring.
