This has to be the saddest movie I have seen in my entire life *spoilers

When I started watching Bedevilled 3 months ago I couldn't stand it. I had to quit watching it as some of the scenes of sexual violence and abuse were too much for me to bear.
And make no mistake, I have seen a lot of Korean movies (The Trilogy of Vengeance, I saw the devil, A bittersweet life, etc...), I love Korean cinema. But at that time Bedevilled was to much for me to tolerate.
Three days ago we had a huge blizzard here in MA, so I was at home with my wife drinking wine and enjoying ourselves. Started watching the movie again. Last time, when I stopped watching it, I stopped at minute 39. Those who have seen the movie know more or less what happens here.
I resumed the movie and started watching... nonstop... and oh man, I really did well waiting for so long before watching the entire thing, I mean Bok-nam's ordeal, and the way it all ended I was in shock. But the most beautiful, saddest, powerful part of the movie was when Hae-Won returns to Seoul and opens all the letters she had left in the trash bin. All those letters from Bok-nam asking for help, begging for her presence were, IMO, the most powerful part of the movie. I have seen so many movies that are powerful, but this movie, in such a "simple" scene really touched my heart. As cheesy as it sounds, I felt it touched my soul when she saw the letters, then laid on the ground and the image switches to this panoramic view of the island and then the memories, the joyful music...
Man, seriously, no other movie has touched me like this one did. And, in my opinion, that's what good cinema is all about: it's not about shock value, not about boobs and butts (although I like 'em on the screen hahaha) it's about touching people's souls, and no other movie, from hollywood or Europe has had that effect on me. This isn't a review, this is a commentary, very subjective, very personal, that I hope other people felt when watching this wonderful movie.

Cheers to all of you.

Very sad indeed. I think most Korean films are very depressing. They have mastered the concept of revenge though. Very good film overall.

It's a shocking finale, especially the death of her daughter for me personally.

It's up there with the bleakest things I've seen, think 'Dancer In The Dark' is still the saddest film I've ever seen though.
