Good movie, not buying the neat wrap up

To answer your last question-I don't think calling her a lesbian is quite the appropriate term (although it could be accurate in some senses). Children can form extremely close bonds around that age, and oftentimes gender is an afterthought. It can blossom into love and a full-blown relationship very quickly as well. However this can be extremely dangerous, too.

A good example of young kindred spirits would be in Heavenly Creatures (which is based on a true story). It's definitely worth watching, as Peter Jackson directed it (yes, that one) and even still it is certainly the most heartfelt story he's ever been a part of, including Lord of the Rings.

One final thought-I was in a very similar relationship as a young girl and we have long since lost communication, but that type of heartbreak is very strong. I would probably go nuts too.

TL;DR-I don't think it matters whether or not she was a lesbian, just that there was an immense amount of love.

It's a pretty obvious ending. The main theme of the movie is not helping people in need. At the beginning, when the girl is getting attacked by those two guys and nobody helps; then Hae-Won not helping the old lady who needs a loan, doing nothing to identify the two criminals even after she sees the ring, doing nothing the entire time on the island, the flashback to when they're kids and the boys are attacking them, etc.

Given that Hae-Won seems to be the only person in Box-Nam's life that's ever been nice to her, I guess it's natural to be drawn to her. There's little evidence to support her being a lesbian, though.

She was not really a lesbian, but under those circumstances (all the men in her life was cruel to her) it was pretty understandable the way she was attracted by her only "friend".
