Another twilight spin off

Looks like the new romeo and Juliet is another twilightish crap catering to the belieber tween crowd.

Romeo & Juliet existed centuries before us. It's a play by the way. I believe you've not heard of Shakespeare. Young people these days are so ignorant of REAL literature. If it caters to the "Bieber" crowd then it should be and it must because the Bieber-Twilight generation these days lacks culture and appreciation of literature.

OP clearly said the "new" Romeo and Juliet. This means OP is referring to this "new" interpretation. Probably stating these thoughts because of the casting, cinematography, music, and\or newly introduced fan base. On these terms I would have to agree with OP. Oh, And try and be a little more condescending next time, people just love that.

But Romeo and Juliet unfolds more like a suspense crime thriller than a love story. Think about it. It opens with a double suicide to hold the audience all the way to the end. With unexpected twist and turns of events.

It seemed like a love story only because Shakespeare was good with words. And because we know the ending from the get go, every moment of the two love birds proclaiming love to each other felt bittersweet.

While Twilight ( judging from trailers ) is just pandering to teen girls' fantasy of having two hot guys lusting and fighting over a girl. So, OP definitely has no clue of what's going on.

reply

I will agree with you on that.

Remy has a point. The OP's message was rather thoughtless - looking down on people who like Twilight and its demographic while Remy assumed that teen girls these days haven't heard of R&J.

Except twilight is poorly written trash, and I feel sad for anyone that likes it when there is an entire world of better literature and film out there

Let's ignore for a moment the fact that the vampires were closer to fairys (oh look, sparkles!) than they were to classical vamps: but the fact that the author forgot her own rules is a cardinal sin for fantasy writers: you can't create a believable world of magic/fantasy if you violate your own settings preset laws of magic/physcis (that you the author made up in the first place!)

On top of it being a meandering sophomoric love story that talks its way in circles instead of getting to the point; 100 pages at a time of puppy dog eyes is NOT good drama

Could not agree more. The casting is cringe worthy and looks to appeal ages 12-16 year old girls... Which is why I'm bringing my van and some candy to the movie theater when it comes out.

reply

Those of you criticizing the age of the cast must not realize that the title characters themselves are only 13 and 17. Would you really want Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon playing those roles? Also Romeo and Juliet was written and originally performed centuries ago. How is it a "Twilight Spin-off" if it was written first? If anything Romeo and Juliet could be considered the first commercially successful love story and EVERYTHING that came after it is merely a spin-off of it.

reply

I love how literally every romantic movie these days gets compared to Twilight. This play has existed for hundreds of years and inspired every love story written or created today. Just because it includes young love doesn't mean that it is catered towards Justin Bieber fans. Please educate yourself.

You don´t know anything about one of the most famous writters in the history, do you? Have you heard or read Shakespeare plays? It´s incredible the ignorance that some people like you show.

reply

Are you saying that because you think the two actors look too young?

They are closer in age to the actual characters.
