What does this version bring to the table?

Based on what I saw in the trailer... Nothing.

Exactly. At least the upcoming broadway version with Orlando Bloom will be an interracial version which makes the tension between families even stronger and makes more sense

Shakespeare did inter-racial tensions in Venice, twice, and delivered insights which have yet to be surpassed. How can you possibly say it makes more sense to misunderstand the play's central premise? R&J is about a completely different part of the spectrum of violent hatred.

"Two houses, both alike. . . . "

They'll probably make Juliet get impregnated by Romeo, then she'd have a real reason to kill herself.. Then again, they might just let both of them live in the end because it's more uplifting or some stupid BS like that.
Who knows? The only sure thing is that it will suck.

I think 'Romeo and Juliet' is a love story for younger generations. I had to learn about it in grade school.. so I'm hoping that it brings inspiration and an appreciation of history, story telling, writing, poetry, language, and Shakespeare from the younger generations. I really don't mind that it's being done again. This version looks authentic and beautiful and it's so much better kids to watch this than the other teeny bopper or mischievous crap that's out there.

change it for the times ...make it more of a Romeo & Adam or Juliet & Eve. idk.
