Ed Westwick - Tybalt?
Does he seem a little "soft" to play Tybalt? I'm just going by his profile - let me know what you think.

shareI thought he was absolutely PERFECT for Tybalt. I'd forgotten that Westwick was in this, and when I first saw him he looked exactly like I've always pictured Tybalt. [I've never seen the tv show that made him famous.]

I just got back from seeing this. My overall opinion is not very impressed. It had a few strong points. I thought the death scene was very well done. I don't recall seeing either Romeo or Juliet basically sitting up while dying, so that provided a new, creepily beautiful image.
I didn't like most of the actors. Romeo and Juliet were fine, though flat at times. I feel like they did their best work in the death scene.
I expected Ed to really shine as Tybalt. I love how shocked he looked that Romeo actually defeated him. I didn't feel that Romeo was angry enough in that particular scene.
Benvolio confused me. Did I miss Balthasar? I don't remember Benvolio being that young OR knowing that Romeo married Juliet. That particular actor did a great job, though. I wish more had been done with Mercutio. There was no passion, no anger, nothing particularly outstanding about him. In every other rendition, Mercutio has been a highlight!
I didn't know how to take Paul Giamatti. I get that he was trying to be emotional and intense, but he came across as weirdly funny.
Overall, I just love seeing anything Shakespeare to the screen. Any excuse to get people reading his work is fine by me! And I enjoyed the movie overall. I wish it hadn't been as rushed and as flat. Sorry that I don't remember Romeo's name, but I feel like he's going to go on to have a great career.
He was awful. Just watched his death scene and cracked up. His running from Romeo especially was laughable.
