who REALLY should have been Romeo and Juliet

For some reason; I don't like Douglas and Hailee as Romeo and Juliet. If they had to cast it again, it really should have been Toby Hemingway as Romeo and they really should have used Mia Goth (from Nymphomaniac) as Juliet. That would have been better.

I thought the acting was okay in the movie but if they had to cast some other "love couple" as Romeo & Juilet, I would recommend either Logan Lerman & Jennifer Lawrence. I think they both would do good in this movie.

reply

Definitely Logan. He's got the looks of Romeo (or at least how I picture him, anyway). I don't think Jennifer can pass for 13~14 years old, but I think she would have done better than Hailee, no offense to her.

But Gandalf! I don't want to be a Hobbit~~

You know, I think Logan and Jennifer would be perfect if there was ever a film adaptation of Romeo × Juliet, a Japanese anime loosely based on the play.

I'd put big money on me being an even bigger admirer of Jennifer Lawrence than you are. But you'd make Shakespeare spin in his grave! The character of Juliet is but a 13 year old, experiencing the feelings of love for the very first time in her life.

I do agree though that, had Lawrence been a teen today, perhaps up to 16 years old, she'd have been a stellar Juliet.

I heard that Lily Collins was originally supposed to play Juliet. Well, after seeing The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, I think they should've kept her and cast Jamie Campbell Bower as Romeo. Those two had such perfect chemistry together; I'd give almost anything to see them work together again.

Please tell me you didn't actually like The Mortal Instruments movie

As for Lily Collins, yeah she was originally cast as Juliet and probably would have done ok. She is considerably older than Ms. Steinfeld (I believe the age difference is 7 or 8 years), hence I believe she would have given a more mature performance (not necessarily better though).

Are you kidding? I loved it! I saw it 3 times, and I can't wait for the sequels.

I'm not saying that was a bad story... but it was a TERRIBLE MOVIE. I'm surprised you liked it.

(I did read the book)

Anyone but Douglas Booth!!!!!!!!!

"It's the Law"
"Then the Laws Crazy!"

Olivia Hussey is by far the most beautiful Juliet. No one compares.

if you ask me, Robert Vito and Leven Rambin should have been Romeo and Juliet!!!!! Or maybe Ritchie as Romeo and Addison Timlin as Juliet. After all; Addison DID play Juliet in We the Kings' song "Check Yes Juliet"; so it sort of makes sense.

I think Douglas Booth was a perfect character for Romeo and for Juliet either Naomi Watts or Megan Fox would have stolen the show on the other hand Ms. Hailee also played her part to the best of her capabilities, but one should be mindful that she is only 17, a quite young and tender in age.

I'm ok with Hailee. I think she was a competent enough Juliet, who at 13 is meant to be naive and of a passive nature, and I think Hailee added a true innocence to the character, which I appreciated. Juliet isn't even meant to be super gorgeous so people who didn't like her because of her looks are really getting the wrong picture, as it's well known that Rosaline is much prettier.

Douglas Booth however... oh, my God, why? I know making poetry seem natural is difficult, but come on. If I asked my GPS to read it, I'd have gotten better results. His performance was painful! No passion, no feeling at all! I often wondered if he actually understood what he was saying, because his eyes just had no emotion. I was even a little creeped out, to be honest.

They should have put Brenton Thwaites as Romeo and Shailene Woodley as Juliet!!! That would have been better!
