100 reasons why this movie will suck.

1. The trailer had "#forbiddenlove" at the bottom throughout the whole thing so idiot kids would promote the movie for free on Twits

2. It's using the same formula from every other R&J
(Side Note: I'd like to see someone make a
R&J from it's true prospective, how they're just stupid kids who know nothing of love. Plus, it could show modern teens that they won't be with their current bf/gf their whole life and they shouldn't do stupid things just for their relationships that will affect their entire lives)

3. The sword fights look incredible fake.

4. It would be less faithful than Baz Luhrmann version.

About no 2, I think since they seems not to use the original play it'd be interesting to explore that aspect. Like what they did to Paris-Helen romance in Troy (2005)

Anything will be more interesting than seeing the same movie that's been done before.
If the fact that the story is over 400 years old is any indication of how much originality will be brought into this film, I'm not looking forward to it.

The story is over 2000 years old. Shakespeare took it from the Greek story of Pyramus and Thisbe. If it's not broke why fix it. :)

Shakespeare didn't write anything. It was the Earl of Oxford (look it up).

Can anyone here please read any history books? Centuries ago people died young. Now we have antibiotics and life support systems. Juliet was already in an arranged marriage, which is what ticked her father off and due to this possible banishment from the family if she did not marry Paris this caused what we call today "The Romeo and Juliet complex". When parents disapprove of a match then the children will want it even more. This is one of the themes of the play. In any case, it "affecting their entire lives" is (sorry) a crap statement. At 13 you would be lucky to get married and have children to carry on your FAMILY'S name. That's what it was all about then...and if you look at the monarchy now it's the same....that bloodline. Except for that 400 or so years ago people didn't have the luxury of waiting until 20-30 to have children. 50% of them would be dead!!!!

So if you want your #8 here it is:

8. No one learns what Shakespeare is trying to teach... BECAUSE IT'S OBVIOUS NO ONE UNDERSTANDS THE HISTORY OR PREMISE OF THE STORY AND THIS FILM IS NOT GOING TO SPOON FEED IT TO YOU!!!!!!

"Trying to teach"? Shakespeare didn't "try", he did! Romeo and Juliet is a great play because of the characters e.g. Mercutio, the Nurse, Peter etc., the incredible poetry and the brilliant plot line that wraps the whole story up in five days. It happens so fast that it reflects the passion of impetuous teenagers who don’t take the time to reflect on things.

“These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder
Which, as they kiss, consume”

corajack, also, what kind of birth control did they have 100s of years ago, like in the late 1500s/early 1600s of "romeo and Juliet"? answer: not much (at all) - hormonal birth control pills came out to the public in the early 1960s - I think one of the biggest problems with this movie is the fact that they didn't get an English Juliet - an American Juliet just will not work most likely because of the real/American accent coming through - also, hailee is 16 and douglas is 21; 4-5 years apart is often a big deal at that age, and 18 is the "age of consent" in the u.s.

I'm sorry I just couldn't help it. I know the story and I know it won't be any different from the 1968 version but this may be the first time when 3 totally different actors (from totally different movies/tv series that I love) will be in one movie together.

Say whatever you want! It's your opinion and it's Your Right! But respect theirs.

I like how you used the word 'true' as if you're the only one who has the right interpretation of the play.
