I am bored of Romeo and Juliet movies

This is the third time this movie has been done. 1968 with Norman Bates mom from Psycho 4 as Juliet. 1996 Leo Dicarpio and Claire Danes and now this 2013 version with Haillee Steinfeld. I like her as a actress but I am so bored of Romeo and Juliet movies. There are other Shakespeare plays tat have not been made into movies yet. Tempest Have we seen a King Lear Movie yet? 12th nigt or what you will, As You Like it, Merchant of Venice, Cymbeline, Has there been a Julius Caesar movie yet, Measure for Measure, Richard 3, Alls Well that Ends Well, Henry 5, Henry 4 part 1, Winter's Tale, Loves Labour's lost, and other plays. Seriously choose a different play

Third time? Are you kidding? This movie has been done almost a hundred times since the first one was done in 1908 by J. Stuart Blackton. And that was only one of three Romeo and Juliet adaptations that year alone.

PS: This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R didn't exist.

Sorry I could only find three. But you make my point even more concrete with that statement. This play has been made in to film too many times. There are other Shakespeare films that have not been looked at or not as much. Why not make one of them into a film for today's audiences. Instead Hollywood does the typical thing they have done so many times. They recycle old ideas again and again and again.

Merchant of Venice- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379889/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_2

Don't get me wrong. I see your point. There have been too many films of Romeo and Juliet and not enough of Shakespeare's other plays.

I dont totally mind it. I mean its one of his most popular works (probably because kids have to study in in high school) so it will probably appeal to the masses more than one of his lesser known works. Plus, there are always so many different ways you can do shakespeare as well.

They have done As You Like it. There is a 2006 version I think. It has Bruce Dallas Howard. There is an older version of 12 Night. I think maybe the 80s or early 90s. Helena Bonham Carter is in it. There was a min-series of Henry the 5th done just recently. And as for Cymbeline...there is one in production. Expect to see it in within a couple years.

Agree. I think it is a story that everyone is pretty much over-exposed to. Anytime I mention R&J my mother rolls her eyes, thinking back to her high school years in which she was forced to read the play in English class and probably watch the movie back in the 60's. My experience with R&J was different because at least with the 96 version, I could relate to it because the setting had been modernized and reflected the 90's culture. I was roughly the same age as Shakespeare's Juliet when I watched it and came into it without any prior knowledge. The experience was so profound and emotional that I went on to read Shakespeare and even study him for a bit in college. This movie could have worked for me because I love period pieces, but it just missed its mark. If they insist on adapting this movie (or any of Shakespeare's other works) repeatedly it needs to be done in a way that our young people can connect with. Otherwise, they may find his work boring and outdated, which would be tragic.
