Well if they really were batteries, people would first have to know what they can be used for. What implications could they have had for mega-batteries?
Ancient civilizations had no electric appliances to use, they did not know how to harness electricity yet, you first have to be able to identify electricity.
A low voltage battery would not really help much in terms of practical implications, but a mega-battery would probably be too advanced to backwards engineer from.
But then again, if Aliens showed them what to do with it, then they would have had a head start on that, but why would primitive traditions survive, while this seemingly versatile and cheap invention somehow gets lost, only to be reinvented centuries later.
They practically turned the Ark of the Covenant episode of Mythbusters into Ancient Alien Mythcreators.
That demonstration that Giorgio and the greasy haired guy did with the battery was with a modified example. The original "battery" is not designed to have a current, the individual parts do not connect like that or complete an efficient circuit.
Id like to find out what that Ark really was though, the stories go into all directions, but then again it is hard to find any tangible evidence for stories like these, since many of them originated within peoples minds, or in other words, made up stories and lies.
The Ark was a mega-battery, gifted by the Aliens, stored in a tomb and the Pharaoh tapped electricity from it by use of Ancient copper powerlines to power his lights, until the poor got jealous and stole the Ark, only to suffer from radiation sickness...
But, it is still interesting to think about it, what if they knew about this, would they have had battery pools? Electric wine making. Grapejuice currents, AC/DC or vitamin ACE. Or what about a grape lighter, stick 2 prongs into a grape, electrify a thin copper wire and use that to start a fire.
