Do they still do that 'women and children first' thing in real life?

I thought this was the 21st century and that society had progressed.

I wonder this too. I think children should definitely be first on lifeboats but women and men should be equal.

Yes, let's only allow children first. Screw the parents. I'm sure the children won't mind being orphans because for some reason we can't let families get on lifeboats together.

That never made any sense to me. Children would be petrified to be forced onto a lifeboat alone without their parents, and most loving parents would loath to be separated from their children.

I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

OkAy so if there's not enough lifeboats for everyone, we should let adults on while children drown? Any parent would be quick to get their kid in a lifeboat alone if that were the only choice. If the ship is going down fast, I would want my kids on the lifeboats b4 me, I want them to have a chance at life over myself.

She choked up as she recounted the moment when an Argentine couple handed her their 3-year-old daughter, unable to keep their balance as the ship lurched to the side and the family found themselves standing on a wall. "He said 'take my baby,'" Mrs. Ananias said, covering her mouth with her hand as she teared up. "I grabbed the baby. But then I was being pushed down. I didn't want the baby to fall down the stairs. I gave the baby back. I couldn't hold her." I thought that was the end and I thought they should be with their baby," she said.

Well of course these days it's a legal requirement to have enough lifeboats for *everyone* on board!

Therefore it would only become an issue if the ship was sinking at an awkward rate: too fast to get all the lifeboats off, but not fast enough so that none of the lifeboats could be used. This seems like a very unusual situation... I'm not sure what would happen in this case.

Women are all for equality except for when sh!t hits the fan I.E. if the boats sinking, its "the man's" job to go down with the ship. When I tell my girlfriend its "her job" to make dinner and do the dishes, what do I get? Nothing.

It's actually true: "feminism suddenly stops short the moment women have to lose their special privledges." We still have only males who are required to sign up for selective service: an incredibly biased judicial system that favors women over men no matter if it is civil, divorce or criminal court; men are still expected to pay for women on dates; the whole ladies first bit is still crammed down men and young males throats; males are still routinely circumcised at birth though this is an extremely painful first experience in life and would be absolutely banned if it was something completely useless taking place to females(the health benefits from this do not exist and this is genital mutilation. Parents do not have a right to cut a part off of a child's body.) we are not quite there with the whole equality thing with the genders and absolutely NOTHING is being done about it because sexism is only seen as something towards females and not even considered at all going the other direction. Absolutely ridiculous double standard.

Yeah, lets suddenly bust out with the sexism when it benefits women . . . BS!!!!! Parents do not have a right to cut a part off of a child's body); we also put out how horrible and awful it is for a man to hit a woman, yet it is shown as being acceptable and even funny for a female to hit, abuse and even castrate a male . . . We are not quite there with the whole equality thing with the genders and absolutely NOTHING is being done about it because sexism is only seen as something towards females and not even considered at all going the other direction. Absolutely ridiculous double standard.

Good grief! So far I've only seen inputs from guys in this thread, yet you seem to manage to keep it alive with angry rants about feminism. How the hell does circumcision come into this?
I consider myself a feminist, and I don't believe in women and children getting on first on the lifeboat. I don't believe in castrating men or hitting them. There, can you stop crying now?

reply

Stupid. Men cry about women not going to war, but guess what, it's still pretty much illegal for a woman to see combat. Tons of women sign up for the army and navy, but they are still being held back from really fighting because that would mean giving women power. and duh men don't want that.

reply

Women are likely held out of combat because they, generally, can not meet the same strength and speed standards as men. This is not sexism, but biological fact: women are not as fast or strong as men.

reply

Lol, I hope not. In any case, I want to see someone stop me from getting on a freaking lifeboat in such a situation just because there are still some women and children on board. As a man I'm as important as them so f!ck 'em.

They have more lifeboats and crews properly trained in emergency procedures now. "Women and children first" was not a rule of law, just a bit of chivalrous nonsense somebody came up with.
