Would YOU go on the maiden voyage if they made a real Titanic II?
hell no!
well, maybe, but i'd have to have my own personal helicopter.

If it sailed out of the South Pacific instead of the North Atlantic, then yes.
I don't have time to jaw with anyone who won't identify himself!
The DeHavilland Comet 1 was one of the most catastrophically crash-prone aircraft in history, yet it was followed by Comets 2, 3 & 4! None of these were commercial successes.

FYI
Given the chance, I reckon anyone would. Come on, it's the 21st Century, things have changed since then. Radar, telecommunications, hull design, life rafts... Why would a new Titanic be in any way unsafe?
shareI would have said the same ...until recently.

Well, accidents happen. My point still stands though - the Concordia had over 4,000 people on board, and all but 13 or so got away safely. That sounds like a successful shipwreck to me.

Absolutely. A Titanic "replica" built today would be technologically modern and would have sufficient lifeboats and other means for passengers to be rescued should some accident befall it.

Well, let's put it this way - if there had been even a few feet of swell, it's entirely possible that not a single person would have survived. We might as well try to look on the bright side, eh? :)

I would, if they actually built a Titanic II that looked like the original. But I wouldn't go if they used the old rustbucket Queen Mary.

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.
Would you go if a Titanic II was made for the Centennial to the exact same specifications and design as the original (material, technology, life boats and all)? The reason given that they wanted to see that great shape complete its voyage as if it had never sunk and prove it could make it just as it had been built and redeem itself.

I can't say for sure, but I lean toward yes. We already know it could have made it under normal circumstances. Ships with similar design, constructed with the same materials in the same way, with fewer safety features, had been doing it for years.

Fewer safety features? The Titanic was a badly built tub built with technology that was already outdated.
shareYou may not believe this, but my brother, the late Larry Chandler - passed March 17,2007, artist best known for Ducks Unlimited, Laborador art, Wildlife art, and duck stamps for many states actually built a 1/88th to scale version from scrap, not a kit, off the Titanic blue prints purchased while the remains were on tour.

Dumbest plot of any movie I've ever heard of. Who says, "Oh yeah, why don't we make a second Titanic and follow the exact same path as the original? That's not a terrible idea at all!"
The fact that the Titanic sunk is enough reason to never go into that area ever again. It's almost hilarious that at the exact same time, a tsunami just happened to form. How realistic!

In a few years, you'll have your chance.

Actually, make that four years as couple actually means two. They are hoping to launch the ship in 2016. Here is the Wikipedia article on this famous or infamous, depending on your point of view, venture:

I hope that this gives all of you the answers that you're looking for. Take care all and have fun.
