What did he say?

Wonderful movie.. really well thought of, and done. Just one scene that escaped me was the one where the uncle whispers something to Rohan. This is towards the end. Anyone?

reply

Well I believe that as Rohan was leaving without his brother Arjun, his uncle gave him the legal advice (he was a lawyer) which made Rohan write the letter about not coming within 100 miles etc so that he can take his brother with him

reply

Pretty good catch :) I was wondering the same thing and didnt even realise that his uncle was a lawyer...

reply

Well that could be it.. but one could say that since the uncle wasn't told about the beating, or at least that's not shown, so he couldn't have given him that kinda advice. The reason to not come within a 100 kms being the abuse.
Another compelling reason to think otherwise is the fact that in the next scene, the kid goes on to see the rest of the photo album showing us that it was indeed him in the photo's we see before.
But that still doesn't explain what he was told.. Any one else?

reply

Well I think his uncle just told Rohan to take Arjun with him. Rohan came up with the stuff about not coming within 100 miles of them. Not hard to believe since he is shown to be quite creative and imaginative.

reply

I think he said Arjun was his own brother not step-moms son..
and so Rohan goes to see the album of Arjun and slowly turns the pages to see his own moms pics in there with Arjun...

reply

Hi. Is this an speculation/theory? Because I believe it was made clear that Rohan is sent to boarding school after the death of his mother? If he had a full brother, he'd have known.

reply

the pix in the album are of Rohan and his mom (you have to watch the credits in the end to figure that out) i think its what adi_arora326 said. His uncle says " suno......" and then probably tells him that Arjun has no one to protect him and what Rohan should do so that his brother gets the upbringing he deserves.

why couldn't the uncle keep the kid,
he was willing to...
he was a lawyer and knew all that 100 km abuse *beep*
and that freeze frame ending is just the worst ripoff in the history of cinema.

Because he knows he cannot give Arjun the life he wants when the father lives just around the corner. Nothing would change really. Getting away from the whole town was the only option.

The freeze frame ending was the ripoff from which movie?

I have seen plenty of movies with freeze frame endings...it'll be a ripoff (/tribute) only if the ending frozen frame is very similar..

reply

Yeah, exactly. If the uncle was a lawyer, and knew about the abuse, and wanted Arjun as a son, he could've easily filed an RO against his brother rather than tell a 18 year old with an uncertain future to take him from Jamshedpur to Bombay.

The filmmakers really should've elaborated on the scene a bit, maybe even after the credits or something.

During the scene, and while Rohan is looking at the photographs, I was sure that Jimmy was telling/had told Rohan that "look kid, your dad, Bhairav, he's mean and evil, but that's because he's been abused himself. I mean, your granddad wasn't too kind to him either. Deep down, your dad loves you and your brother (half/full) like he loved your mum. If you don't believe me, check out the photo album. I mean, who do you think took those pics?"

But then, the letter from Rohan to his dad shattered that theory, I would've thought he'd at least let down his pops easy (if the above scenario is true), but nope, he threatens daddy with 'legal consequences' and tells him that he is incapable of love. There goes that idea.

Yeah, that freeze frame is disappointing, to say the least.

Nonetheless, a great film, but the ending is bad enough to dock a star from a perfect rating, imho.

I think he told Rohan to take arjun with him and explained that arjun will not survive alone in boarding school. And that if rohan abandons arjun, arjun could very well turn into his father
