Who was really surprised by Armie Hammers acting? I thought he did a better job than Cavill in all honesty who I thought was trying a little too hard (at least at the very start of the movie). Overall great film though, and not trying to bash Henry as an actor whatsoever.
Hammer was excellent. I'm not expert on accents but I really liked how he sounded in this film. Cavill was alright I guess but Hammer contributed immensely to my enjoyment of this film.
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame
I didn't know Armie from Adam, never having seen him before -- but from my very first glimpse of him sitting at the border watching Solo cross, I couldn't take my eyes off him.
Gorgeous to look at, and such an endearing personality. In the old TV show, David McCallum hardly even bothered with the accent (at least in the later years), but Armie did a really good job. I was impressed.
McCallum's Scottish accent served him well. I don't think anyone was critical of accents back then.
Hammer did a pretty good job. All actors who play Russians use that same accent, probably taught by the same dialect coach.
Imho, Cavill was much better than Hammer although Hammer had the story going in his favor. Solo was supposed to be a cad. Ilya a thug and delicate genuis combined.
