The Beatles cover

I haven't watched a late-night musical guest appearance in years. But last night the devil must have been inside me, because I stuck around after Conan's interviews to watch something called The Flaming Lips team up with a Miley Cyrus to *beep* on the Beatles's A Day in the Life.

I also noticed that Conan's sign-off was pre-recorded afterwards. Maybe he died after witnessing the above. Should I be worried?

The Flaming Lips have been around for over 30 years. I had never heard of them until a few years back. They're out of Oklahoma and I guess they have a pretty close following. No idea how Miley Cyrus hooked up with them, but the results were less than impressive.

It was like watching a train wreck. I watched the whole thing, I was so ashamed of myself. And to think that's the stage where The Goonies was filmed. smh

I have a negative opinion of cover songs. When I usually listen to one all it makes me want to do is listen to the original.

Metallica's "Astronomy" though is awesome compared to the original. Same goes for the cover version of "Fear the Reaper" used in The Frighteners credit sequence as opposed to Blue Oyster Cult's original version. just my opinion.

um having said that, I have a friend who won't listen to Beatles music and prefers the versions from Across the Universe. I still want to punch him in the face sometimes.

That was...interesting. That's the nicest way I can think of to put it.

This was one of the worst things I've ever seen.

The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts.
