CUBA?!

No one is talking about this?? Great episode, some of the best work he's done in years. Not only was it very heartfelt, but an entire 60 minutes of Conan doing remote pieces is guaranteed comedy.

He should win an Emmy for this episode. Hope he does. It was very timely and very well done. I live in Canada and I'm regularly exposed to people who have been to Cuba and enjoyed their time there. I'm guessing there isn't much news of what goes on in Cuba with people in the US. They are missing out. I'd like to visit Cuba before it opens up because it might create a new Cuba and the old one will never been seen again (for better or for worse).

It was ridiculously hilarious! Conan can do no wrong.

One of the best episodes I've seen in a while.

All scenes were hilarious, but I think my favorite was the cigar factory. 

The dance class is a close second....FUNNY STUFF....(and that chick had a rockin' booty, eh??) Wow!!! 

It was an incredible episode, very funny, but I think I saw sadness more than I did humor. Conan only iterated several times how lonely he felt; I also got the impression that he felt lonely even without him saying that out loud.

I hope he does something as crazy like that again, but I wish he'd bring along an on-camera buddy, maybe Andy (do they not hang out irl life or something?) or someone else who can keep him somewhat cheerful.

I saw Sona (sp?) in the background, so I know she was there, as was one of his writers, probably because he speaks Spanish fluently. Plus camera and boom operator; I think he said there were 10 of them on the trip.

But aside from Sona, no one there was probably really a friend.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much, and maybe that thread about his Howard Stern interview was on my mind as well.

I don't think Conan is a very happy person and I don't know what it was with the Cuba episode, but I kept feeling like he didn't feel like he belonged. Maybe it's just me. I thought he seemed sad in the scenes where he's walking around, the rum bit, all the dancing and especially the band/guitar bit. He seemed normal in the cigar bit, but super tired on the rooftop bit (understandably, long day of shooting remotes) and then kind of sad at the restaurant bit at the end. 

I kind of feel you, but keep in mind
1) He couldn't bring a ton of guests because they did this pretty much last minute with no clearance from Cuban government. That said, there was at least one camera person and one of the shows producers (saw pics of her there, she's been on screen a few times over the years), so he wasn't really alone.
2) They were playing up his loneliness for comic effect.
3) Cuba is pretty run down in some places and it was hard to look past that. As I said, it was a very sincere episode that lent itself to various emotions, including a bit of loneliness, yes
4) He said it was one of the best experiences of his life and would love to go back

Best episode for a long time, Conan is always good with the common people, no matter where they live.

In the past, I seldom watched his show because it seemed sort of sophomoric and uneven. I would watch only once in a while if he had a guest I really wanted to see. But I have to admit that the Cuba episode is one of the few where I actually laughed out loud many times. It's too bad that he can't do mostly remotes all the time, I guess.
