I enjoyed and some things were crazy town ....
- flamethrower guy
- midget punches
- Santa's ecstacy
- TV coverage

I suppose so, but some may disagree.
Cloverfield for the first-person group experience, and Superbad for the teenage, rollicking party til you drop subject.
Sure, Project X could be derivative of these 2 films.
I liked all of the films mentioned.
