Is Costa the most vile movie character ?

He's like Jonah Hill with out the humor, that said despite how putrid this character was ,there was something fascinating about this a$$hole , his a$$holery entertained me.

Question is what are your most vile movie characters of all time ?

"The stuff that dreams are made of."

I didn't like him. Next to him being a douche, I found him annoying and to me, he looked like an amalgamation of Shia LaBeouf and Ramon Rodriguez from Transformers 2. Great, that's 2 characters that I can't stand, and to have a combination of them as one person, no, having one of each is enough.

reply

Vile is the most appropriate word, congratulations. Not just bad, or annoying, but vile. He reminds me of a roadkill. Ugly, oozing a bad stench, so repulsive that you can't even feel sorry for him. You just walk away.

Never be complete.

Cry me a river... Costa is nothing more than a combination of Seth from superbad and Stiffler from American Pie. Why do people get so intensely offended by his character?

reply

And he looks like the love child of those 2 guys Sam and Leo from Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

reply

Because he bases his life, his future, his ambitions on one thing only: "please think I'm cool. All those kids in school, whose names I'll never know and will probably never see once I graduate, please acknowledge that I live, pplleeaasse... your opinion means the world to me, it's what I live for, I crave more attention than an attention whore, I'll sell my soul for just one day at school when people point to me and smile. It's the sole reason of my existence."

Never be complete.

So, this more or less applies to many kids between 12 and 18. So you would say calling those kids Vile "is the most appropriate word"? They are not "just bad, or annoying, but vile". do they remind you of "roadkill. Ugly, oozing a bad stench, so repulsive that you can't even feel sorry for"?

you were not that popular at school I guess?

A lot of people criticise this film on these boards for a broad variety of reasons. They say it's poorly directed, they say the acting is bad, writing terrible, the footage cam style is overused, the plot very thin. They also say the film sets a bad example to teenagers, and most of all, they say it's not funny.

Another lot of people defend this film, saying... no, scratch that. NOBODY defends this film on these boards. They just make bland, ridiculous accusations to those who criticise, such as

-If you don't like it, don't watch it.
-You probably never went to parties.
-You probably weren't popular at school.
-You probably like only serious films.
-You probably are old and boring.
-You probably don't know what fun is.
-You probably were never young.
-You probably are ugly, your mom is ugly too. How can you not like my favorite film? You're a poo poo head. Waaah =( I'm gonna tel mommy...

Now, if you're trying to defend a film, you should have something to say about THE FILM, not about the person you're defending it to.

And you're right, I wasn't very popular at school. Yet I was popular enough among my friends, which was enough for me. When I was in high school, which was about 20 years ago, you wanted to impress your friends and your classmates, not strangers. We didn't care if the entire school thought we were cool or not. Why would we? Our friends' views of us was much more important. So we kept our stupid "impressing the people" stuff to a small, limited group, we had our fun, and nobody got hurt. We never even dreamed of getting two thousand strangers into a house and trying to impress them by how crazy and cool we are.

And please, let's not confuse being young and carefree with being a complete moron, like the kids in this film. There's quite a difference. I hardly think the majority of teenagers are like this Costa thing. In fact, I think the majority of teenagers would avoid Costa at all costs. He's too much of an idiot.

Never be complete.

Yeah, and if you respond to a post, you should have something to say about the POINT of the post, not about that one little sentence at the end.

Actually, most 12 to 18-year olds I know, despite wanting to be accepted by their peers, aren't like Costa. While I wouldn't call him the most VILE movie character ever, as a friend, he probably would be a type of guy you'd be best to avoid. He reminds me of those sleazy guys you see in old movies from the 70s or 80s who wear those disco suits or "members only" jackets that hit on every chick possible and has to be the life of the party. Snakes in human skin. An over exaggerated character with no redeeming qualities.

except for Seth was somewhat likeable and Stiffler threw countless parties without 5% of the damages from Costa's 1 party, and Stiffler seemed to always be cool. Not thirsty and desperate for any attention like Costa.

I like comparing Costa and Seth better

I know people who remind me of him...I wouldn't say that he was evil or psychopathic, but simply extremely immature for his age and didn't know when to discontinue certain behavior (it's generally amorality rather than immorality). Of course his reasons for organizing the party were largely self-centered, though he may have genuinely felt that he was doing Thomas a favor (Thomas as well as JB seemed sort of reluctantly grateful at the end) and he never left his side during the actual party. However, I think that Costa overstepped certain boundaries during the confrontation with the concerned neighbor(who had a wife and a baby). He should have simply apologized to his elder and heeded his warnings. Of course I don't think that most girls would find his pick-up lines funny and he certainly wouldn't be as popular with females as it was portrayed in the movie.

He was definitely sociopathic.

reply

Well, but that's what the movie is trying to say, isn't it? It isn't like he's portrayed as a saint there, more like a disgusting scent.

reply

Oh, man, I would be careful what you say about Costa. I just got put in my place via a threatening PM because of something I posted in another thread about this fictional movie character. Tread lightly. Costa apparently has a lot of friends on this board!

We're mad at Mike. Do you know who we're mad at? Mike? You dang right!

reply

I know that I am just jealous of this Costa dude because he is everything I am not!! Or, at least that's what I was told to me via PM!! Anyway, I mean, that is true! I am so friggin jealous of this dude, it's coming out of my eyeballs! He certainly is "everything I am not". I must thank the poster who sent me that PM. I have not laughed so hard in years.

I just watched Film Brain's review, and was surprised in one scene where he basically seems annoyed to be hanging around with the other guys and considering them his 'friends.'

Well, if you don't like these guys...WHY HANG AROUND WITH THEM AND CONSIDER THE FRIENDS!!??

Oh, right. He needs meeker individuals to elevate his sense of 'awesomeness.'

Apparently the film is so vile that after pretty much being the instigator of this whole mess, he gets away scott-free, and is still egotistical enough to say, 'I want to do another one.'

"Thanks, guys." "So long, partner."

What's the difference between Seth, Stifler, and Costa - besides the S? Seth and Stifler eventually learn something. They grow as characters. Costa starts out a repugnant ass and remains that for the duration of the "film". He doesn't learn his errors, he's misogynistic, spoiled and worst of all he's celebrated for it. From his crotch-grabbing, misogynistic introduction he never grows and that's boring.

I'm not that old, I like a good raunchy comedy. But I like well-written features that challenge the audience or show us characters we can care about. People use words like vile, douche and ugly to describe him. The one they're missing is pathetic. Costa is pathetic, he's not a friend, he's the kind of guy who surrounds himself with weak-willed "less cool" people to assert that he indeed is "the *beep* That's sad. He's not a friend, he's a troll who uses Thomas to fulfill his need to be "a legend," because for whatever reason, be it sociopathic hedonism or a need to escape reality, or whatever, he's not interested in friendship and helping Thomas, just getting *beep* up.

The worse thing is at the end he comes off as "waiting for the results of three paternity test and learning absolutely nothing. Great guy...

the villian in Human Centipede 2. he was disgusting.and he didnt even utter a word.

reply

Costa is disliked mainly because there are way too many douchebag teens in real life who base their personality on obnoxious movie characters like Costa, Jonah Hill and Stiffler to seem cool amongst their peers.
